My understanding is that one of the big improvements of the Gillette New is that the blade now hovers above the open comb, rather than resting directly on top of it.
I've been wanting to try a razor like that, with an open comb and a depression under the blade edge. I assumed that the Aristocrat (which came after the New) would have that head design, but now that I hold one in my hand it seems that the blade rests directly on the tines of the open comb.
Modern Merkur open combs also seem to have the blade resting on the tines.
What razors, other than the New, have open combs and a depression under the blade like a safety bar?
Ideally, I'd like to find a TTO open comb that handles similarly to my '51 Super Speed, but I'm also just curious in general.
