What's new

New to this whole thing.

I have this J.R. Torrey Razor that i want to use to learn how to straight razor shave with. But i don't think it's sharp enough to shave with. I don't have a strop yet but if i wanted to use this razor could i have someone make it shave ready for me so that i can at least try a few times?

Also does anyone know how i can date this razor? everything i've read says it's early 1900's... but i don't know if that's the case.

Early 1900's is a good guess for almost all the vintage straights :)

Unless someone offers to do it for free I'd hang on to that one and order a shave ready "sight unseen" razor from Whipped Dog for $25. You will then have a sharp razor to compare others too. Most people who charge for honing change about $25 anyway so you might as well get a "free" razor with it!

I'm sure someone here is willing to help you out for free but you need to at least say in what part of the world you live in.
