What's new

New Rooney heritage hair

The new hair in the Emillion is what I am talking about. I had someone tell me that there is new hair coming. I did see a new type of Emillion at a vendors website.

I need to know what is changing. Is it for the better or worse??

Pictures of the two band hair can be seen on Vintage Blades website. I have a two band Emillion with a bulb shaped knot. The hair feels a bit prickly when dry but when loaded with soap or cream it is very soft. When the Emillion and other Heritage brushes first were introduced, they were a three band, fan shaped, also very soft. Now some of them are two band with a bulb shape. The new coral colored Emillion appears to have gone back to the fan shape although it is still two band. The brush I have does not bloom much, is quite resilient but not stiff. Because of the shape, the bristle does not splay as much as the fan shaped three band. If you're interested in buying a brush just call Jim at VB and have him pick out what you like. I've had both the three band fan shape and the two band bulb shape and I prefer the bulb shaped two band.

Sounds like all Heritage hair from here on out will be 2 band. Curious to see some pics.

That would be cool. It seems a few already are (the pictures are from Vintage Blades):

I have the two band Beehive above and it rocks. Like another poster said earlier, prickly when dry (unlike the earlier 3 band super), but good backbone with soft tips when wet and lathered.

Have you tried Rooney's finest? If so, how does that compare to the two-band hair in the Beehive you have?

From that description without the pics it almost sounds like the finest knots used on the Rooney brushes.

Wonder if it will kinda be like the simpsons lines where we see a three band and once in awhile a two band.

Off topic slightly: is it still possible to get the heritage in finest?

What is the diff between 2 band and 3 band besides the obvious color diff?

Is the 3 band softer? Is the 2 band bleached?

I haven't tried a Rooney Finest, but from what I recall from Jim's post about the Coral Emillions in the Vendor forum, the Heritage two band is different from the elusive Rooney Finest hair.

I don't believe it was possible to get a Heritage in Finest hair. I think they always came in either Pure or Rooney's special grade of Super Silvertip.

there was a very limited run of heritage brushes in finest hair. it was limited to the stubbys in sizes 1 and 2. If you frequent the SOTD forum you will see Ambrose's Stubby 1 finest almost daily.

I'm wondering if the new two-band heritage hair is less of a lather hog than the original three=band heritage hair. For me, this was the only draw back of the old heritage hair. it was resilient yet very soft. for those of us with more sensitive skin like me who can't tolerate rooney finest bristle, this was the perfect combo. the only drawback IMO was the unwillingness of the brush to give up the lather.

If anyone can comment on the difference in latherhoginess between the old and new heritage hair, it would be greatly appreciated.

I do believe that Classic still has a Stubby 3 Finest available. So they came in more than just 1 and 2. I've also heard people refer to a beehive finest, but I cannot confirm that.

Thanks. I've seen Ambrose's Stubby 1 Finest since he started posting about it, but didn't realize that it was a Heritage. The new Heritage hair doesn't seem as piggish with the lather, but I'm comparing a 21 mm knot in the Beehive with a 24 mm knot in the Victorian.

Rooney actually did offer the Stubby in finest a while back. It was a very short and very limited run.

EDIT: I see someone beat me to it.

What is the trick to getting the Emillion to "give up" the lather? Should one just go get the 1/2? We would not have these problems if one could just walk into a shop and try them.

I sent Jim an email asking him about the new heritage hair and what the change meant to performance. Waiting on a responce.
