New Razor

I am currently using a vintage English flat bottom Tech with pretty good results.

I had previously used a Razorock GC 68 that I found a little too mild.

How do you think the RR GC 76 compares to the English flat bottom Tech

Welcome to the forum Sr, you’ll have a wonderful time here, I’m sure.

I don’t own a flat bottom but I would imagine a .76 would certainly be a little more aggressive than an average tech.

I have the .68 and the .84, I feel they are both less forgiving and more blade sensitive than a tech (regular post war).

If you really want a step up I’d look into the .84. It is loved by many here.

You can always add a different plate later on.

First of all, welcome to the B&B community.

Am I correct in assuming you no longer own the RR Game Changer 0.68? If you did, I'd suspect you'd just order the 0.84 or 0.76 base plate and try them... Re-investing in a razor that has been sold or passed on makes it feel hmmmmm "wrong", perhaps. At least, I think I might feel that way..

I sold my first Flat Bottom Tech.... I even had it re-plated by Chris @ Back Roads Gold... I just reacquired one in good enough shape it doesn't need replating but it felt a bit odd, buying it a second time.

I don't own a Game Changer and have never used one.... But if you are willing to try a Gillette Vintage razor just a bit more efficient than your Flat Bottom Tech... You might consider the NEW Long and/or Short Comb razors. I have one of each and they give me shaves very similar to the Timeless 0.68OC... Shaves that last 12 hours for me, but are still smooth and comfortable. There are a couple good Vintage guys on Etsy.

I have both, can’t go wrong with the EFBT, it’s a lovely razor. The .76 is very smooth, I like how the geometry mellows out how the blade feels and the cutting angle. The Gillette is probably slightly more efficient though.

The Flat Bottom Tech (with its custom handle) is my top favorite SB razor:

In second place is my Baili BT131:

And in third place, my Wolfman WR2-SB 1.25:

Me too (I PIFd it). :yesnod:

I had the RazoRock GC 84 and got rid of that too. IMO the Gillette FBT is superior to all of the above.

Find it sort of funny you FAVORITE is Vintage TECH, and you Wolf finishes 3rd PLACE.

Thank you all for the advice, its given me plenty to think about.

You already have an excellent razor as has been stated above by @Cal but, if you're still considering adding another optional razor to your shave den, I would also endorse the British RFB. It's a superb razor that ups the cutting ability slightly while still maintaining incredible smoothness and ease of use. That is if you wanted to stay within the vintage razor realm. If you're considering a more modern/contemporary/today like razor without spending large amounts of cash, the RR Lupo series of razors, especially the .72 in either open comb, safety bar or a dual comb base plate configuration will do nicely as well. Maybe a tad bit more aggressive against the aforementioned two but, it's well made of 316/L Stainless Steel to exacting tolerances. Provides very good shaves that are relatively smooth & comfortable against others costing 3 to 5 times as much. For the $, it's one of the better deals out there. Additionally, I'd like to throw in a plug for the Chinese made DScosmetics Brass V92. Very well made, efficiency level of cutting is amped up nicely and still it delivers a very smooth feeling shave that doesn't feel aggressive or overtly blade forward in action. Cheap as chips too.

Good luck on your search...

I have decided to go for the RR GC .76, the .68 was nearly good enough, so hoping .76 will work out.
It being stainless steel, covered tabs, heavier and longer handle helps in making the decision.

The EFBT is a great razor will be sad to let it go but sure the .76 will serve me well

Never sell a razor! (Unless you have two of them)

The gamechanger 76 is the sweet spot for that razor (I was one of many that said the 68 was too little and the 84 too much).

Personally the Gillette safety bar is smoother for me. I tried to like the gamechanger but couldn’t make it work.
