New Razor - Please Help

Gentlemen of 'B&B'

Your advice and wisdom is requested - I currently have the EJ DE89BL razor and have had relatively good success with it (2.5 year veteran with it) - however, it is time to try to get a more aggressive razor. I've had a couple of gents recommend a 37C / Bakelite Slant or a Merkur Progress / Adjustable razor.

I basically wanted to throw this out to you and see if you had any recommendations. I realise my experience will be unique due to technique and skin/beard but wanted to try to get some feedback on this.

Best -

Welcome to B&B, Brunton. I'm going to sound like a bit of a broken record to some of the other guys here, I'm sure, but I think a long-comb Gillette NEW is a fantastic "next step" from the EJ head. It's slightly more aggressive without going absolutely crazy, and they're very easy to come by.

Where might the best place be to grab one of those?

+1! I've only been de shaving about 6 weeks, and love my long comb new. I started with a late 40's SS, then got an early fat handled Tech, and just last week got a gold standard bar handle New in the black and red case. It is slightly more aggressive than the SS, but just a bit. You can feel better how it is cutting, and if you like a thick lather, the open comb will rinse out much easier. The lower profile head is easier to use under the nose, and I think the overall balance and feel is better than the SS by a bunch, and slightly better than the Tech.

I went to a Merkur 15C OC then a Merkur 39C Slant and finally a Muhle R41, the latter being my favorite so far YMMV
