I'm transfering my Query from the Newbie Check in to here:
Hi All,
I've been DE wet-shaving for about 5 years. I've been an on and off lurker for some time now with some long gaps of no-lurking thrown in as well. I have a conundrum and it's been eating me alive for the last couple of weeks. I can't explain it to friends cause..well they don't understand. Here goes. My Birthday came and went, nothing spectacular, I usually get myself something and I usually know well in advance of what I want. This time I wanted a straight razor. Told the wife, got some pretty stiff resistance. She brought about the fact how badly the first year of DE went. I litereally butchered my face that year with so many cuts and weapers. She deflected and said get another pair of shoes. I would usually pounce on that, but when your collection gets so bad you have indigo colored bal captoes, shoes was not happening. I've waited for the feeling to pass and perhaps i have deflected. Recently my little brother was complaining of ingrown hair (he uses a norelco). He dropped by asking about wet shaving, I happily gave him my EJ 89L, proroso, and my first and only badger brush from AOS (that came in the starter pack). I easliy departed with the EJ 89 since I never use it, it was too passive. I wanted to also pass off the Men U to him too, but he wanted the badger. I had stopped using my badger for the last 2 years but a part of me didn't want to let it go. My main go to brush is my sythetic EJ brush. I've been thinking the hell with animal products, i want a badger brush...back in my life. I think it's a good deflection from a straight razor...for now.
For the life of me, I can't figure out which brush to get. i use soaps and creams. Soaps would be Cade and TOBS Lavender ( I think i've owned them for 5 years and not even dented them yet). Creams would be AOS lavender, Speik, Proroso, TOBs, and many others along the way. I use more creams than soap. Razors are Merkur Futor (my first) and slant, as well as the new Muhle. Holy moly is that a sharp razor (but not as smooth as my everyday slant). I know my equipement is paltry compared to others, but the thing is I'm a lazy shaver as well. 5 days a week, i'm a face latherer, one pass type of guy. Weekends is when i take my time. Help? Budget-under 100, i've thought of Rooney, Kent, shavemac, silvertip, but no other conclusions. Since i'm not a collector, I need 1 sure fire bang.
and sorry if my post is long.
Thanks,
Nomi
