New H.I.S. Synthetic today

My new H.I.S. synthetic arrived yesterday after I shaved. Isn't that always the way?

I was very surprised at how soft the tips feel. I was expecting more of a plastic feel and it really feels a great deal like a silvertip badger. As you can see, this is my first synthetic. It was $25, $32 with shipping.

I just shaved a few minutes ago.

As I have no synthetic experience I will compare it to my Kent BK8. To me the brush resembles more of a boar in it's overall shape - no big fan at the tips. It is a little taller than the BK8 and the handle is fairly large (I got the clear handle).

It holds more water than I expected. I lathered in my scuttle and was initially disappointed, but it did produce a mountain of lather - it just took longer than the Kent.

More backbone than the Kent. Really a very nice brush at twice the price. I am impressed.

You will find that the amount of product you use for each shave will be far less than what you use with a natural because the synthetic fibers do not absorb water and / or product.

Enjoy it!

I liked mine so much I ended up buying another "just in case." I prefer it over my aos silvertip. Enjoy!

How do you like the feeling of the brush on your face? I've had mine for a couple of months and I'm still deciding if I like it or not.

I have a Muhle synthetic (23mm). I really like the feel on my face. Just the right amount of scritch but overall very soft and more backbone than my super badger. I'm a convert to the new synths.

I can't really decide either. The tips are super soft, but it's so springy. When face lathering it doesn't give at all, and then suddenly splays out huge - too huge for me. It does create unbelievably dense thick lather.

+1. I have experienced the same thing. The tips are super soft and feel great but it's actually a bit tricky to use.

I've already posted this is another thread, but I thought maybe I should share my thoughts here also: I used a ponytail holder/elastic at the base to make it feel like a shorter loft and really liked the result. Maybe worth a try if you don't quite like how it feels.

That being said, I would love to see this brush done with a different handle/loft.

I have the H.I.S. in black. It feels firm but soft and works fine. But, I wonder why they made it so huge. It is much taller than my badger brushes and most of the boars (except the Omega Pro, and I have the same objection to that) and it is stiff. As a result, I feel it's a bit too different and end up using my Simpson Colonel and Semogue 1305 a lot more than the synthetic brush. They're just more comfy.

I used my H.I.S again this morning and I THINK it's starting to maybe gain just a touch more flex in the bristles. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the way this brush works. Face lathered Mike's Barbershop and got a nice lather out of the brush, although I still feel it's too big for me. I keep a full beard so when I say face lather I really mean neck lather. I saw that they're coming out with a H.I.S. Bullet that's got a 21mm knot. The handle looks but-ugly, though.
