"New" Feather SS - first shave - questions

I became the proud owner of a once-used Feather SS (RazoRock had it - shipped it immediately - received quickly - Thanks!). Used MWF and a Pro blade for the first shave. I have the RG and DX models and like them.

Does anyone have the specs on this - in short, how do the specs compare to the RG/DX models?

It seemed the blade extension was slightly greater and the ridge on the edge of the holder was immediately noticeable. I managed to get a Paco shave (still a little raw and bleedy ;-}). I pushed it fairly hard and got a few rashes for my effort. However, it seemed quite good and, of course, I got a close shave.

I liked the handle angle and heft of the razor. All-in-all, a keeper.

Anyone else using the SS? (Picture below is RazoRock's)

I have used the SS but sold it, it's more forgiving then the RG and DX but I prefer those above the SS. I also find it a bit cheap looking and feeling. But that's just me, the one who bought it is very happy with it.

I answered one of my own questions by reading the manual that came with the razor (duh... when all else fails).

Feather SS Blade Exposure

Pro Super: 1.25 mm vs 1.45 mm with DX/RG
Pro (and Guard): 1.0 mm vs 1.2 mm with DX/RG
Light: .4 mm vs .6 mm with DX/RG

In practice, I'm not sure that is what I'm seeing. I have a Super in a DX and a Pro in the SS and when they are side-by-side, the Super is definitely NOT 1/2 again as exposed. Or... maybe it is an optical disillusionment. ;-}

I have a DX, SS folding, and SS nonfolding. So far I would say I prefer the shave the SS nonfolding gives over the other 2. It does seem more comfortable and more forgiving than the DX. I also get a closer shave with less effort. FWIW the SS motivated me to sell most of my DEs.

The DX i have is the teak wood, which is a much better build than the SS. It's very solid and feels like a conventional straight. However, i really like the rubberized grip on the nonfolding, the plastic handle on the folding is so so.

I'm waiting to receive some Kai Milds I'm going to try in the DX. So far I've used pros and supers, I prefer the pros in all of them.

I love my Feather SS non-folding, in the colour as in your pic. I get wonderful, close, irritation free shaves. My points of comparison with similar types are the Korean razor (CJB??) and the Kai Captain folding. Of the three I prefer the SS, and it's the one I use now maybe 5 days a week (I use a Gem OC MM the other two days of late).

Regarding blades, I like the Kai Milds and the Feather Professionals as well as the Pro-guards. I know some don't like the Pro-Guards. The Dorco blades i've found a little harsh, although it may just be that my skill level isn't quite there yet!

i have CJB's and a feather SS thanks to the gentleman right above me ^...

i think they shave equally well.... but for some reason i only shave with my own creations here lately...
