Most of the rules regarding old-school shaving are rules of thumb: good first approximations of how to proceed, but approximations from which you are free to (and should) deviate if deviation helps you get a better shave. If two passes yield a close and comfortable shave, there's no reason you have to attempt a third. If you're getting good head shaves from your DE, there's no reason to stop doing head shaves with your DE.
