What's new

New cocobolo scales for my Helje MK32 work in progress.

Hi folks,

I decided to rescale my MK32, with some fancier scales, as my original scales was broken from start.

I first took of the scale, to make a pattern of the old scales so i knew what shape they would be, then i beltgrinded out the shape.

Started to handsand the corners as thin as possible, as i like my scales thin.

After that, the thinkness.

i coated the scales with loctite superglue, about 5 - 10 layers, sanded it down with 400 grit paper, and then worked it up to 12000 micromesh.

Will post a photo on the razor when i put it together, still having a hard time deciding on what of material i would use as a wedge, as i want it either stainless, or something else.

Enjoy.

Thanks,

Yes, i can't wait until its done, as i really want to shave myself with the helje aswell.

Very nice! If the shipping issues and such weren't a problem I would send you a scrap of some walrus ivory for the wedge. I think bone or antler would make an awesome wedge for those scales. Antler takes an amazing polish and would suit the finish of your scales.

Great work!

they look great if you cant find a decent wedge ill take them off your hands.:001_wub:

what about a piece of pale hardwood ?
that would be a contrast if you cant get antler/bone

I wouldn't have thought it would be difficult getting antler or bone in Sweden!!

Great finish on the scales - I tried CA but just could not make it work, unfortunately.

I find that the Loctite Professional Liquid superglue gives the best finish. Just flood the surface, let dry and sand down. Number of coats depends on the wood. Some superglues act anaerobic and don't work well as finishes.

Beautiful. I absolutely must invest in some micromesh.

Nice work on the Mk32 scale its superb nice color and hope the handle is fully strong of that scale..How much time did you spend with the mk32 scale?I do not know which scale is the best but i work on to search the scale and tell to you after one week.

Guys, Miloe hasn't posted since last August...
