New cleaning Video; requesting your feedback

Hello!

I've recently purchased my first double edge safety razor, and used the cleaning instructions on the shave wiki to clean it. I was quite impressed by the instructions, so I thought to make a video about doing it.

Well it took a while, and isn't the finest piece of cinema on youtube, but it is out there. I was wondering if you might be able to take a look, and let me know if there is anything I should add/change/delete.

Thanks much for your time, and your support on this board answering my questions.

no video shows up for me, I tried Opera, Google, Firefox

I got it. Nice video. I wondered, as I watched, if you let the razor air dry after the barbicide (or whatever you were using) soak, or did you rinse it? Also, I guess step 1 (prior the soak) could be done with the Scrubbing Bubbles people here use? Anyway, good video.

Nice job, a couple of points I will mention. Virtually all razors are plated (you mention being careful not to polish "plated coated or plastic pieces". While it wasn't mentioned, I do hope you used a fresh cup of water to add the Hydracide to. I really like that you pointed out that all polshes are abrasive, as so many believe some polish's claims to be non abrasive (not true).

Lastly, not sure how bad the pitting on those doors is. I've had one or two that resembled those, but the pitting wasn't through the plating. I was able to use MAAS and get them smooth and shiny again (obviously won't work if the playing is worn through).

Overall, very well done, and good on the Props to Mantic (though you might consider adding an address for his videos).

Hi Pioneer.

I rinsed and let the razor dry between the hydrocide (barbicide) and the polishing.

Step 1, could be done with scrubbing bubbles or any other cleaning system, including ultrasonic jewellery cleaners.

Thanks for the compliments.

Hi Rick, thanks for the comments. Replies & questions inline.

Is the plating on some razors more delicate than others? In the written instructions and other videos I watched, they seemed to be cautious of polishing gold plated razors. Is that because that type of plating is more delicate?

I did, but I just annotated the video with that information. Thanks!

I got a comment from Metalwax saying they aren't abrasive, so I'm communicating with them to see what the bottom line is.

In the same e-mail from metalwax they told us about their high performance cleaner which should clean the debris and rust out of the pits. Hopefully I can get a sample of that, and see if that does the trick. Otherwise I might try MAAS

I did link to all the videos and products I mentioned, including Mantic's video. If you don't find it (below the you tube video embedded on the best4men.net website) please let me know. FYI, I did get Mantic's approval to include his video before I published it.

Thank you very much for the feedback.

Dude, Brett, or alias. Nice job with the video. My suggestion is to omit the very end re the sample razors and Mantic's video. Not that samples and Mantic aren't GREAT, just that it doesn't fit with the title and theme of the video. Also, If it were me I would use a razor without the pitting. The pictures of that razor are not very appealing.

Great effort, keep it up. And Welcome to B&B.

There is a layer of lacquer on gold plated razors which is easily destroyed during the cleaning process. If you boil a gold plated razor it will melt and flake off during the rest of cleaning as well as if you use chemical that are too harsh or polishes that are too abrasive. The lacquer coat is there in order to give better protection to the gold plating which is why removing it is bad.

Nice video. Well done for taking the time to put it together.

I did get a little worried when I saw the box of rubber gloves though .
