New brushes (1/3): My new homemade chubby

Gents,

Aart and I spent the holidays finishing some brushes, doing some final lacquering and gluing the knots into the handles.

Some of them you may have seen here in progress, but now I like to present the final products.

First in line is my new chubby.
4.5 cm handle (a bit shorter than the first chubby we made), and a 22mm dark badger knot from Tony at the Golden Nib. I have never seen such a dark knot, so I am looking forward to see how it looks and performs.

I cannot remember what exact type of wood it is, but I'll ask Aart.

This one will enter the rotation today, with some Mama Bear's British Leather and a Muhle R106.

So, yesterday was the maiden voyage and today the second run.
This one is a very, very good latherer.

It also the most prickly brush I own now.
Wonder whether that changes in time?

Fot those that are interested. Some info on the wood. The chubby in the background is made of mahogany. the one in the front is most likely to be Merbau.

Nice brushes. I have an Omega in black hair and the tips are clipped to shape - it is very prickly and hasn't softened noticeably with use. However, if you paint rather than swirl, it is quite mild and makes a good lather.
