New Art of Shaving Soap Formulation Without Tallow

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new AoS formulations without tallow. Their Sandalwood tallow soap remains one of three soaps that have been in my rotation pretty much since I began traditional shaving (the other two being La Toja and MdC). I was lucky enough, with the help of B&B friends to stock up on the tallow formulation but I'm curious about the new formulation. Anyone?

I just had a shave with my new AOS Unscented and could not tell the difference in the initial lather, but in my third pass had to go back to the puck. Could be my new brush, but I doubt it. The Tallow version just lasts longer and creates a more luxurious and longer lasting lather, IMO.

I could shave a few more times with it to be sure, but fear that my first observations are going to be the norm, instead of the exception.

Scritch,
GreekGuy did an extensive review of the non-tallow formulation in a separate thread that you should look up. Short answer is that he thinks its still good soap.

Thanks Mark - I did read that thread. I was just wondering if others had tried it as well.

Now half as wise
As much as I love the old tallow version, and have a few pucks left, I did a 3017 on the new Sandalwood version, and have to say I was impressed. When I run out of my current stash I would have no problems using the new stuff.

If you want to get the older, tallow version, take a look at Valobra hard pucks and Czech and Speike shaving soaps. All of them are manufactured by Valobra (as AoS tallow was) and have exactly the same ingredient list, with different scents, of course.

I bought a used puck of the tallow lavender from a friend on B&B and like it, but I've not compared it to the new version.
