What's new

Which vegan shaving soap gives you the best post shave?

So just to clarify, that's soap without tallow and lanolin but it's ok to recommend soaps with milk of some sort.

I've tried Hasliner, Wickhams, Speik and The Goodfellows Smile and have been impressed with them all, but I keep hearing about how good the post shave is with tallow and I was wondering if anyone has found a vegan soap with a post shave (moisturising effect) that is equal or better than their favourite tallow soap?

I have insensitive skin, so I'm not a good judge of what is good for people who are sensitive, but Marco is right (as usual), Saponificio Veresino has a wonderful post-shave feel for me. Their scents really knock the ball out of the park, too!

Lockhart's Goon Grease shaving soap rises to the occasion. So does the "new formula" Mitchell's Wool Fat (without tallow). But at the end of the day, let's be frank. Put some tallow in that soap. Sheesh. Who are you trying to impress? There's been tallow in soap for like, centuries? Who are you to come along and dump chemically processed veg oils into a shave soap?

Signature Soaps in the UK has great performance and post-shave feel.

No Lanolin, No Tallow, No SLS, No Parabens, No Animal Testing, Vegan

They have a few soaps that contain goat's milk, most of them do not. They only use essential oils for scent.

The post shave is not greasy or drying, it leaves the skin feeling clean and moisturized.

This morning I used Jack Black beard lube as a preshave with PdP 63 soap. I believe they are both vegan. The combination leaves a great post shave feel. Trader Joe’s Honey Mango is a budget vegan cream that works well also.

I should add The Soap Opera in Madison WI sells a very rich moisturizing shea shaving cream that's really nice if you're looking for that type of thing. I stopped using it though because it was leaving a residue on my razors. It wasn't a big deal and took awhile to build up, was cleanable, but I liked Kiss My Face more (I like less moisturizing products) and it didn't leave residue.

I prefer a fresh clean feeling with minimal post slick feel which means that when I rinse I don’t feel as if their is any residue left behind. MdC Rose checks the boxes for me.

Pré de Provence (in either fragrance)
Tabac reformulated V2 (where the coconut acid was put back in)
Institut Karité (as mentioned above: if you can find it)
Not exactly a hard soap, but let's pretend it is: Acca Kappa 1869 (in the aluminium tin)
