What's new

New appreciation for Williams

I used up all of my regular shave soap and am using Williams while waiting for refills of the good stuff to arrive. I last used Williams about a decade or more ago, so I'm familiar with it already. However, knowing what I've gleaned from everyone here, I soaked it in water all night long before using it for the first time.

What a spectacular difference!

The soap was already nice and soft for me to face lather with and produced a lather that was *much* denser and cushiony than anything I ever generated from Williams so long ago. Not dry and airy - pretty darn good in fact.

I'm going to have to try this at length to see if I need to continue with the more expensive good stuff.

I find it interesting how one soap can be so love or hate for folks. Would anyone be geek enough to do a spreadsheet on how each soap lathers in different types of water hardness?

Just whipped up some because I was bored and a tip is that when you think you have enough water add more. Lots of water, and a well loaded brush are key.

Sorry, I couldn't get past "I used up all of my regular shave soap". This happens?

Really?

I think it's just a temporary situation. You missed the part about "waiting for refills of the good stuff to arrive".

Mitch has been clearing out many items from his shave den in the B/S/T, post-Christmas. I don't know if he's finished with AD's or just making room to re-load with new stuff :biggrin1:.

Yup, Pete's onto me!

I only had one bowl of Prairie Creations tallow in lime and I completely used it up. I *did* have two more bowls of PC tallow goodness as backups, but they were different scents that I hadn't yet tried and have since learned that they cause my skin to burn. So I'm slumming with the Williams until more PC tallow in lime arrives, which may be awhile due to the backlog Krissy has.

And yes, I'm done with AD's.

I tried Wiliams for the first time a few days ago and I did not have high hopes, but surprisingly it gave me a very dense creamy lather that gave a great shave. I was very impressed and look forward to using it again sometime soon (I just got hooked on Speick).
I just soaked it in water for a few minutes and then soaked by brush and went at it and was blown away at how thick the lather was.

"It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart getting a glimpse of his life without Williams, and Clarence finally getting his wings when he lathers?

"George, you're a fool using that broken down old soap. Look at me, I've got shelves of nice English stuff, and you can't even work up a decent lather with your American Williams. I may be a warped, twisted old man, but I shave with nice stuff!"

"Uncle Billy, Potter's right! Look at this five o'clock shadow, all because you lost my Red Tip when I sent you to get you some more Williams! If only a puck lasted longer, you old fool!"

"Well, George, they've been making it since I was alive, but you've got your wish, Williams has never been invented!"

"What's happening? There's no wetshaving and old man Potter has started everyone using Fusions in 1946! My Fatboy doesn't even exist! Clarence!"

"Teacher says, every time a shaver uses Williams, an angel gets his wings!"

It's been done.:tongue_sm

Oh my god ...

... I hate Williams but that parody just cracked me up. You picked some great shots, too!

Thanks for the laugh!

I let mine soak while i shower and I find it works way better. Its almost like a different saop

it works better if you use it every day, that way the soap stays moist. even if you don't use it every day, drip some water on it the night before. for some reason it's just better when it's slightly "mushy"
