What's new

NEW acquisition

My name's Ceri and I have travel set AD. I've twelve so far, mostly from the fifties and sixties but one of the first I bought featured a NEW but with most of the plate missing and a cracked handle. I have a bar handle NEW, which is one of my favourite shavers, but I've been on the look out for another British NEW in better condition.

I was bidding on an uncased NEW to replace the broken one, but was quickly outbid, so I went for a travel set, even though I've promised myself not to buy any more. The set went for about half what the individual razor went for, and it arrived today.

Other than the razor the rest of its contents were pretty good. The bakelite cylinders are a change from the host of wholly chromed ones I own, and the bakelite styptic holder may join my main travel gear. The brush looks unused, the bristles look to be boar I think, but the handle is white porcelain its glaze attractively crackled which may be my first brush restoration project.

Anyway, the razor's in decent condition - there's a little plate wear on the cap, but the there doesn't seem to be any elsewhere. I'm not sure if the plating chrome or nickel - it looks too shiny to be nickel I think.

Not a bad haul for £11.70 shipped :001_smile

Those tubes always look like salt cellars to me. But they were that way that time.

Nice find! Are you going to use it?

The cylinders are often described by eBay sellers as talc dispensers :001_smile

I'll definitely use the razor - my bar handle's gold finish always feels a bit ostentatious for a week day morning. The styptic holder (marked Souplex underneath) I'll probably use too - I have a wooden one in my travel kit, marked 'Superfine Traveller's Styptic Pencil' which is probably best left on display rather than used. The brush seems useable, but will have to compete with my Wee Scot :001_smile

Nice pick up! I find the new type to be a very fine shaver. The travel kit is a bonus with a nice little brush too.
Enjoy,
Russ
