Neophyte at the interstice - Brush advice needed

Hi all, first post from Dublin Ireland. I was hoping to get some advice on a brush that fits between a Simpson Commodore X2 and a Kent BL8 in terms of scratch and stiffness. I am moving from creams to soaps (TOB) . I use the X2 for soaps and the Kent for creams. I have sensitive skin and use the cream/Kent combo in the Winter, but was hoping for an all rounder that fits between the X"'s stiffness/scratch and the Kent's billowy softness. I will always have 2 brushes (or more) but am not a collector, so I'm looking for an investment brush for about euro80(usd100). I got a deal on a EJ Super (EJ366 large) for Euro30 and am awaiting delivery. Finally I lather in the container and then on my face and like a large brush. Thanks for a great forum. Any thoughts?

Welcome to B&B!

If you were in the USA I would recommend a Rooney 3/1 Super: about the right price, a bit softer than Simpson best, and a good all-purpose brush. Sadly they are not so easy to come by outside the USA, even though they are made in England. The T&H rebranded Rooney brushes used to be an option, but I am not sure of their current status.

Still, you should have some reasonable options. You could try a Simpson in Super hair, either three-band or two-band. Or maybe a Shavemac? I hear good things about their finest hair.

Do you prefer any particular handle style?

I was looking for a Rooney; as you say it's a Simpson with less scrub, but I cannot find a vendor. I am not overly fussy as to the handle, I like the Commodore and Beaufort handles. I guess I like Simpson's, its just that my neck says otherwise!!!
