Need more info on interesting straight razor made of Sheffield steel

I've acquired this straight razor some time ago and my attempts to find more info about it were futile. I was contemplating for some time to give it to someone who can sharpen it and make it all nice and clean, so that I can get into the straight razor world, but I still haven't made a decision (most of the time it looks like too big of a leap for me).

I'm fairly new in straight razor world, but I believe it's a quarter-hollow straight razor. Case is an obvious mismatch, but I got it when I purchased the razor. I've paid 14-15 $ and at that time it looked like a solid deal since I was sure that a straight razor with such markings should be above average. However, since then I haven't been able to find more info and/or what is the actual quality class of this razor. So, if anyone knows more about this interesting straight razor, I would really appreciate if you can share it with me (and other members).

Thanks in advance. :001_smile

C Vitting was a cutler from Solingen, Germany. The steel is Sheffield as stated. The razor looks to be from the 30's or 40's. I would have it honed, pick up a strop and give it a go.

Thanks Mike. Nice of you to share a bit of info. :001_smile

I think I saw somewhere that Vitting made razors for a brief period of time (from 1920s to 1940s), but I wasn't aware that he was a cutler from Solingen. I just might listen to your advice and give straight razors a try.

If anybody has somewhat more info, please don't hesitate to write it. It will be much appreciated. :001_smile
