What's new

Need help with a new wallet.

I need a new wallet. I was think about a Saddleback, but I understand they are really heavy, and I would really like something light. The one I have now is an Osgood Marley. It's nice, but oddly, the bill compartment is too small to really hold any cash without jamming it in. I'd like something thin and light, that will hold four to six cards, and have a bill compartment that will hold cash comfortably without being too bulky. My budget is $60 or under. Anyone have any suggestions?

I forget where I bought mine (Dillard's or Nordstrom) but it is very minimal. ID sleeve one one side, two card slots on the other, card/cash slot in the middle, and no folding. Very simple.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I decided to go with a Saddleback ID wallet. It looks like just the right compromise for me. I want the wallet to be durable, and the Saddleback should meet my expectations. It looks like it will hold the cards I need plus cash while being compact. At half the price of a lot of wallets that are probably not as well made, I think I a good choice. We'll see.

That looks really nice. I guess for posterity sake my two cents is this. Until a few months ago, I had one of those Chester Mox slim (one-pocket) wallets with a money clip, and they are great, really nicely made and beautiful leather. But while I could keep up to 8 cards in there, I would have to think through which cards I would need on a regular basis (usually weekday vs. weekend). So I researched it and got one of those All-Ett nylon wallets. I keep every card I have in there, so on the few occasions where before I would need a card and not have it, I now have everything. It holds receipts and money, too, so it makes what I'm carrying a little easier to manage (and I like the fact the money pocket is "raised" so the bills don't disappear).

Part of the reason why I went to the slim wallet/money clip solution was because I was developed a George-Constanza like lump in my back pocket and getting some back problems as a result (specifically an irritation of my sciatica). I looked at the large Saddleback, which appears to be a comparable to the All-Ett, and that looked like a monster, volume-wise. A gorgeous piece of leather, but unwieldy. Now the All-Ett isn't the most stylish wallet, and its got a couple of slightly frayed corners, and it did crinkle a lot when I first got it, but I've been extremely happy. And its only like $20 or so.

My solution to this is a brandy cordovan for everyday cards and my home country currency. A second cigar cordovan for travel carrying additional cards and foreign currency. The brandy has a stunning patina and working on the same for the cigar encourages travel. If I loose my wallet I have enough in reserve to get by. Always split my resources when out of country. Some guys carry so much they probably need an old style Buco biker wallet and chain. For example:

I received the Saddleback Leather ID wallet for Christmas and I really like it. Keep in mind that carrying lots of cards will mean limited space for cash, though I suppose that's the point - not to carry a lot of cards. Anyhow, just wanted to give my thumbs up for this wallet. It's nice to have a wallet that doesn't make your *** hurt when you sit down.

I have a coach wallet that my wife bought me at the outlet store in Johnson Creek about 3 years ago for like $30. I want to go to a front pocket wallet/money clip, but I just don't have any pockets available with all the stuff I carry.

I've had my Saddleback for a couple of days now. It's really nice. As soon as my wife saw it she said, "Ooooh, I want one."

I may be kind of late, but I second the vote on bellroy. They make some fine wallets, I'm currently using a note sleeve. Its not going to last forever, or comes close to a saddleback, but its very functional. Holds lots while still keeping things slim. Personally I bought the note because it held coins, but over time, I'd rather it didn't and will likely get the sleeve wallet without the coin compartment.

the tabs that hide away the "less used" cards work, they make things easily accessible when needed.

The slots for the "mainly used" cards are great, I've been using 2/3. The side with a single slot I have my DL AND a thick (probably worth two or three carded) ID card that I use to access different floors at work.

I have about 13-15 cards total so the slim sleeve probably won't work for me. Can you comment on if the note would work for that many cards?
