Need help!please! My new slim blade tray is stuck

Hi everyone im in need of some help I have just recently purchased a Gillette slim adjustable off ebay from the Razor emporium guys. its very nice looking but there are some issues. The blade tray will not move it is stuck i cannot get it to go up or down. Also the adjustment knob moves but not very easily . I have heard of people letting there razors soak in hot water for a couple hours to fix problems like this, is that what i should do? Any info on how to fix this razor would be greatly appreciated because I was intending to gift to my brother to introduce him to wet shaving.

Hello everyone im in need of help I just got a new Gillette slim adjustable DE. I started inspecting it and i find that the adjustment knob moves not very easily though. Then upon further expection i realized the blade tray is stuck and will not move ive even tried using force from pushing on the tray to move it and it wont budge. So i need help as of what i should do i boiled some water in a coffe cup with a little bit of dawn soap and its setting in there now for a soak. I really need this fixed as the razor is intended as a gift to my brother to introduce him to wet shaving .

Make some soapy water with Dawn, or a similar dish soap, and stand it in a glass so that the soapy water is higher than the end of the razor, that way it can work it's way inside the razor. Be patient and let it stand for several hours, even overnight. That should help as long as there's nothing broken.

Alright ill give that try thank you

Ya I bought it off ebay under one of Razor emporiums auctions the only description of the razor was "good overall condition" nothing about the blade tray being stuck. My reason for getting this was because I wanted to see how they were and if this was a good experience i was going to send them my fatboy to replate now i know to stay away from these guys.

Ol Navy Adage: If its suppose to move and doen't - WD40
If it moves and isn't supose to - Duct Tape...<G>
Give the soak a little time and see how that works. I had one that was so gunked up with soap residue that it took me 2 tries to get it working right. i did spray some wD-40 in it and it seemed to help lubricate and get things moving again. Then I soaked it again and rinsed under hot moving water to wash away the gunk. My son is now using that razor as his daily shaver (old SS).
Hope you can get it working properly - good luck.

If it were a Slim from the wild or just stuck from years of neglect, I'd try to soak it and turn the adjuster to 1 and try to work the blade tray with my fingers until it moved freely. It sometimes takes a lot of time and patience.

Buying it from eBay from a group that makes their business to go through razors and cherry pick them, and take them apart and reassemble them, I'd expect to get something in working condition.

How long ago did you buy it? Have you contacted them to return it?

If you got it fairly recently, contact them and try to get help through eBay. Why invest time or effort on it? You didn't buy it from a little old lady who wasn't sure what she was selling.

I would return it if it showed up stuck and with a messed up knob.

Yes I know exactly what you mean, I bought it on the 12th it showed up today the 16th Ive contacted them, now waiting to hear back. I plan on returning it I just thought while im waiting to hear back i'll see if maybe I could fix it a little in case they refuse a refund. Nedless to say I will not buy from them again.

Long soaks. Leave it soaking, rinse and scrub, repeat, repeat, repeat.

This may get annoying if you're in a rush, but I don't know of any shortcuts, or at least not any that won't hurt the razor....

I realized patience is key here...

+1 to everything said here, hot soapy water soaks.
Got a D-4 Executive (aka gold Fat Boy) that I thought might have even been defective and it took about a week of hot water and dish soap soaks to free it up.

I replied to your post in the general topics thread and also suggested the long hot soak treatment but Bakerbarber has it spot on,this was not a find in the wild or "I found dad's/grandpa's old razor and it might be worth a buck or two" Ebay sale but from someone that supposedly knows vintage DE razors and should know better.
+1 on get a refund

Yeah I have a 40's SS that had a really resistant TTO, I have spent A TON of time cleaning it and it has much less resistance, but I definitely could get it opening better.

yes i will heres a link as well to the ad http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gil...=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I hope you can figure out how to fix it. The seller did clearly state sold as-is... Soak, soak, soak. You might try Simple Green as well.

Send it back. This should have not shipped in this condition. Don't let them cop-out, don't let them tell you it was in perfect working order when it left their possession! That would be my thought, as when you plunk down you're hard earned money on something it should be in perfect working order, unless specified as something other than that. IMHO

EBAY has the "Buyer Protection" plan to protect buyers even if the seller says "no returns." If the item is not as described, it is grounds to file a EBAY/Paypal complaint. You must, of course, give the seller some time to respond/make things right, but there is a time limit. I've had to do it and EBAY was fast in taking action and I got a Paypal refund for the cost plus the shipping...and kept the item. Even if it seems like a small amount of money, it is also helpful to future buyers wo may have to deal with the same seller.

If it said overall nice condition, that's what you should have received.
