Need advice on on aggressive razor

I have a few vintage Gillette razors: a Fat Boy, two Superspeeds, a Tech and an old Single Ring.

Really the only one that shaves me satisfactorily is the Single Ring. I guess it's the most aggressive one.

My question is: what other razors out there are as aggressive as the Single Ring? Red Tip? A Merkur?

Try a New Improved. It's generally more aggressive then the Old Types. My Big Fellow is the most aggressive. I don't know about the Fatboy.

Is aggression the only factor? What is it you are looking to accomplish? For aggression, a slant (such as a Merkur 37C) is an aggressive razor style and the old the style Muhle R89 is reputedly one of the most aggressive razors known.

You might want to look at a red handle Super Speed. If you prefer the heft and feel of a non-adjustable (I do) it's the most aggressive shaver of the Super Speed line.

Muhle Pinsel R89 old model. That was the most aggressive DE that I ever shaved with.

If not, the slant might eat a bit more whiskers.

Good feedback.

My favorite style is the most simple, the Tech. Three pieces, very simple. I have cranked up the Fatboy and got a good shave, but I prefer non-adjustable style.

Do they make an open comb Tech?

Yes. It's called the Old Type ball end handled pocket type. Made by Gillette of course until 1930.

If you are looking to stay within the three piece lineup, like Len said, something with a New Improved head will be more aggressive than the Single Ring. Or if you really like the head style of the Single Ring, there is also the Bulldog and the Old Type Big Fellow. Either of those are going to be more aggressive than the Single Ring. They are both on the expensive side, but great shavers if you can track them down and are willing to pay for them.

You could always branch out into SE razors as well:thumbup: The Open Comb Micromatic fits the description of an aggressive razor.

Definitely give the Merkur Futur a try. It's a more aggressive razor and is adjustable to become even more so. I highly recommend it, if you prefer a more aggressive DE.

Cheers!
