Nanjie Cheapo Razor

I Just received one of these cheap Chinese razors off the bay. i picked it up because I wanted to use the hard plastic travel case on my Red Tipped Super Speed. I am happy to report that the case will indeed make a good travel case for the Super Speed. The Super Speed head is a little too big though, and I had to cut a bit of the plastic inner tray off with a dremel, but other than that it is perfect. The mirror in the lid is also a real mirror and not made of shiny plastic, plus the entire top lid removes easily for hand held convenience. I will be giving this razor a try in the next week for curiosity's sake, and will post the results here. Someone else Identified the Nanjie as a re-branded Vincent already, so it should be equally bad, and by the looks of it, it will be. I can confirm that the TTO knob is plastic just like the Vincent, and parts of the shiney stuff on the knob are already flaking off. Good news is it looks like there is gray plastic underneath. I may scrub off all the shiny stuff and get it over with if it turns out to be usable.

The head on the vincent in that picture is a tad different than this nanjie, the handle however looks exactly the same. That vincent has a chunk of metal coming up in the center of the head, whereas the nanjie does not have metal extruding upwards with the doors closed.

I started DE shaving with a Vincent about a year and a half ago. It does have a nice case. I broke it in half and used it for two razors to sit in to dry out between uses. My vincent strangley enough actually looked exactly like a Weishi, not like how the shoebox ones look. It got me thru my first coulple months till I picked up some Gillettes. I ended up throwing it out. It started to sound clanky and started to have problems opening and closing. In a rotation I'd give one 6 months tops.

I will be anxious to hear if it is actually possible to shave with the razor.

If one wanted a cheap Vincent (minus the case), you can buy them for a mere $1.29 at ShoeboxShaveshop:

Looks like he bought them, and decided they were of too poor of quality to even try to sell them.

I tried this razor out this morning. I started with a Red pack Israeli Personna blade that had been used twice already, so it wouldn't be too sharp, but still smooth. Unfortunately that didn't help much. This thing shaves like cr@p!!! There are obvious manufacturing defects with this thing for starters. The safety bar is uneven, and the TTO doors cause the blade to curve down at one end. This causes an uneven blade gap all the way across one side. Even the "good" side wasn't very good though. I couldn't find any good angle to cut with. I managed to finish the whole job with this razor, but it did draw blood 4 different times. I wont be using it again.
