What's new

My son was born today

My first post here and was going to put it in the SOTD but thought it appropriate to start on this forum.

My son was born this morning and I had my first shave after that experience. As all of the emotions flooded me from the experience it was strange how they all faded to the background as I went through the ritual. I couldn't help but think that this is something I would like to pass along to him. In the middle of a chaotic and sometimes painful world there is such a place as solitude.

I know it sounds kind of silly but I hope that he ends up being the kind of person that won't take the quick and easy path in this world, that will live intentionally and will shave well.

I've been told that infants most recognize scent as they can't see very well. So I threw on the Dr. Harris Sandalwood aftershave and hope no mater where the paths of this life lead him he will remember me as a proud father every time he smells this scent.

Just a suggestion:
If you have a large collection of razors, save that one you used today. Clean it, wrap it up, and put it away. Never use it again, until one day, you can present it to him as the razor you used on the day he was born.

wow that's a great suggestion...however, I only have one but regardless I will keep it for him no doubt....thanks for the well wishes.

Congratulations! And AlanL has made a great suggestion I think.

Best,

Congratulations! Jim made a great suggestion, too!

Both my son and daughter asked me when they were teenagers what it was like for me the day they were born, and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my thoughts with them. You will have a wonderful story to share with your son when he's older.
