What's new

My poorly chromed brand new EJ DE89L baseplate is REPLACED!

...replaced by RoyalShave :001_smile

They received my email on Monday and instead of taking it all the way to Edwin Jagger they decided to do a quick replacement by pulling a baseplate from a new razor and sending it to me.

It arrived today (Thursday) and is as purty as the rest of the razor.

Special thanks to Lori at RoyalShave who was great at keeping me informed about what was happening.

Some snippets from her emails;

=======================

"I hope you will love the razor and thank you for the understanding."

"I am sending you a replacement piece that I have gotten off of a brand new razor so that we can get it to you quicker than if EJ sent it to you directly from England"

"We always try to do everything possible to make sure our customers are happy and well taken care of."

" I have forwarded your email to the supervisor as we usually have Edwin Jagger deal with these issues directly since they have fabulous customer service and always take care of any issues immediately. I wanted the supervisor to get your email to see if there is anything quicker we can do for you'

Excellent customer service.

Now, I may still think twice about ever buying an Edwin Jagger product (yes, I know 'emotional more than rational..but still based on THE first experience with their products) - BUT I would not think twice about buying from RoyalShave again who really stood behind the products they carry and kept me as a happy customer. Kudos!

EJ makes finely finished razors IMHO. No one is perfect but when it isn't the company that, stands behind their product is just as important. Have you seen the finish on a Merkur?

No never seen a Merkur in person. Is the finish very different?

Sometimes it is the running gag as to whether the plating will be good on them on not. Kind of like Russian Roulette in a way to see if your new Merkur is one that does have an issue. Merkur has had some plating problems and as Ronnie noted, plating has at one time or another gotten to almost all the major producers at one time or another. Now EJ has had a good rep for standing behind their products and it is good to see the Royal Shave does as well.

Enjoy.

I don't understand the people that always have something bad to say about the Merkur plating.

I have bought 3 merkur razors so far, (one for me and two more for gifts). I have yet to see bad plating on one yet.

There's even a store nearby that sells about 7 different Merkur models. I have seen them, and the plating looks great on them too.

i guess it's rare that i keep seeing good plating on them

All's well that ends well and you got to find out you have a great retailer than you can trust. Win.

Great service of the retailer and apparently of the manufacturer as well. Teaming business partners like these rock! :thumbup1:

Grats on your replacement head man! Just barely saw this thread and I was wondering what had become of your imperfect EJ head from over in the Newbie section.
