This is a little late in coming...but since I have a bit of extra time, I wanted to post my experience with my $185 ATT Titan H.
I was part of the pre-order group that anxiously awaited the Titan's release. Pre-release reviews were glowing and I figured I would pull the trigger on the Titan.
The razor itself is extremely well made - along the same order as Feather, Tradere, iKon, etc... Mine did come with a mildly blemished cap which the company quickly took care of by sending me a new one. Overall, the Titan is a very well built razor.
The shave itself was on the aggressive side - although to my mind - not particularly smooth. I used the suggested Astra SP blades along with my regular Iridiums, Voskhods, Gillette Silver Blues and Personna Labs. Beard prep was mostly with MWF and Cella.
Closeness of shave - the Titan H will shave you very close and provide a good deal of feedback while doing it. The shave overall is pretty decent, but once again, not a "smooth" shave as such. With that said, the R41 is not known for smooth shaves all of the time either, so I understand. The R41 however, does shave closer than the Titan which would be expected.
In regards to shaving aggression as compared to other razors; the Titan is in a dead heat with the Joris, Cadet OC, Fatip, Barbasol Floating head and is very much akin to the New York Shaving Mariner. In fact, if we set the Titan's excellent build quality aside and address specific shave results and quality only, the Titan shaves virtually identical to the $30 New York Shaving Mariner with one shim in it.
I'm not for a moment suggesting that the Mariner is as good a razor as the Titan. What I will state however from my personal experience, is that the $185 Titan shaves virtually the same as the $30 Mariner. The Barbasol and Joris are both smoother and as close - and I would submit a better overall "thought out" shaving design than the Titan; but I'm sure ATT will continue to improve their products as time goes on (as did Tradere, iKon, etc...).
There's a lot of guys who absolutely rave about their Titan razors...I'm happy for them. For those of you who really want to know what it actually shaves like, grab a Mariner, pop in a shim and you have the same shaving result. Now...if you really like that result, step up to the plate and place your order for the wonderfully built Titan.
For me, the Titan didn't shave any better than the R41, Joris, Cadet OC, Fatip or the Mariner. I ended up selling my Mariner since it didn't add anything to my rotation, I ended up selling the Titan only because I didn't see the need to have a $185 Mariner - both of which were outshaved by others in my collection.
I burn through a few hundred dollars a month on this hobby and it's just something I enjoy doing. So I'm a little jaded when it comes to FOTM rave reviews and Kool-Aid distribution. I buy gear that may be promising, I use it, test it and then form my personal opinion. When something works for me, I will certainly post accordingly, when something doesn't impress me much, I will post that as well. To me, it's all about the journey and I'm certainly enjoying the ride.
Note: As always - shaving is all about YMMV. I didn't like the original Tradere OC at all...yet, I really liked the 2nd Gen version and the new SB model. I love iKons handles, but found the S3S and OSS razors to be far too mild and the S3S hopelessly overpriced for the shave it delivered (or did not deliver). The Feather AS DE is almost a right of passage for anyone who collects razors long enough...I found it to be finicky and Gillette Tech mild (that being the case, I didn't need a finicky $150 Tech, albeit a beautifully well built one). The Vision 2000 - great razor - just didn't cut it for me. The Futur - I shouldn't have liked it but I did. Once again, YMMV.
