What's new

My other razors are getting jealous.

...of my 37c slant. After using the slant for a couple weeks now I decided to go back to an old favorite, my Mergress XL. I had a couple days growth, and immediately felt some tugging while getting the blade started around my chin and lower lip (I am a cold water shaver and getting the blade going on thick growth can be a bit rough sometimes), an area that has the toughest whiskers. Whipped out the slant, and it cut through like butter, and I am getting as close or closer shaves with the slant when compared to my non-slant razors with no irritation at all and less sting with the alum block after.

I know I mentioned it before in a previous post, but all of the claims of the 37c being an aggressive razor that will bite you. I find it NO MORE AGGRESSIVE than my 34c, and use it just as I would any non-slant razor. I blade buff and J-hook with it no problem. Have not nicked or cut myself with it yet, and even in my most sensitive and tricky spot on my neck it's always been super smooth.

You can seen them all in the background sneering and giving my 37c dirty looks.

Unfortunately it looks like a 37C. If you'd like to try the Sledgehammer slant (39C), just let me know. I may have one I can sell you.

I like my 37c, it certainly works better than my other razors. Word has been spreading out from leisureguy that there's an even better slant out there, a NOS bakelite slant. I've already got one coming to my house to keep my merkur 37c company.. or overthrow it.

I know how you feel. If I let my face go across the 4 day line, I'll turn into slant. However, Merkur's chrome plating is "meh". It's an excellent razor, but the beauty and finish leaves me wishing for more.

I guess I'll just wait for a certain company to create their slant and adjustable products. Until then, I shan't be happy with my slants and Futurs.

However...37C is a goddamned good razor.

Nice photo. I have got that same razor holder. Really enjoy using my 39C which I have more than 24 hours of growth.

Where did you guys find that razor holder? But I wholly concur on slant razors...absolutely love mine.

I just got back from a 3 month trip. I could only take 2 razors and my 37c was the easy first choice (followed by my Futur).

I could easily use either my 37c or 39c every day for the rest of my life, they are that good.

If you want to try something extraordinary, pick up a classic shaving Cobra. Now that is my top pick for a safety razor

Your pictures are always extraordinary Turtle...isn't the Cobra a really aggresive razor though, unlike the slants?

You found the "trick", just use it like any other razor. I was going to put mine on the B/S/T board until I just plain shaved with it and got a 2P+ BBS, no problems at all.

If anyone told me a few years ago that I would be taking photos in my bathroom I would have laughed so hard I would have died.. Just goes to show you what can happen when you become obsessed with something.

A lot of people say this or that razor is aggressive. I find the Cobra efficient. The blade is wider than a DE or standard SE so it covers more area per pass. It seems to get everything and so far I have never needed a clean up pass after finishing my normal 4 pass shave.

I've yet to get a nick or weeper from my Cobra. I get a closer shave with it then I do with any other SE or DE with far less "stress" than I get when using my R41.

I find that the disposable SE straight razor blades last twice as long as any other blade, not that this matters as all blades are inexpensive, even the disposable straight razor blades.

My only complaint about the Cobra is that the handle is not designed very well. It looks cool but I find it awkward to hold. If it was not such a fine shaving tool I doubt that I would use it because of the handle.

I was thinking the say thing, beautiful stand.

These stands used to be available at some of the larger building supply stores. They are called toothbrush holders

I've done a search of Lowes and Home Depot online and can't find them listed any longer

Have a 39C in the mail right now, can't wait until it arrives! :001_cool:

You will love it!

I am a recent convert to the slant and I am happy, if rather surprised to say, that this razor is the cure for RAD!

It is superb and shaves so well that I cannot see how it has developed such a fearsome reputation. I have some great razors, but for sheer joy of use, the 39C trumps them all.

BOSS rules

I have a 34C, not a slant. But I think my Merkur is one of the heaviest razors I've felt (including a bunch of at least Gillette vintages). Both feel solid, and I would say, maybe from age or the quality of my vintages, that my Merkur is probably the best finish. But then again, it's months old and I've seen the pictures of what soap does to it's chrome over a little while.

I guess I think it looks REALLY good, it just deteriorates REALLY fast.
