What's new

My "new" razors and a couple of questions

I stopped by a local antique store and picked up a really nice Griffon Carbo Magnetic for $50 and the Ashton Jackson for $15. I will need to get the Carbo honed as my fumble fingers managed to get the edge dinged (very slight under the MA if you look at the picture). The Ashton will be restored.

Now a couple of questions. It is hard to make out on the stamping if it is Askton or Ashton. Regardless, I searched under both names and I can't find any information on these as to approximate date of manufacture, etc. Anyone have an idea or know anything about them? Also are the scales worth saving? I'd like to keep it as original as I can, however you can see in the last picture the scales are a bit warped and as a result the blade dug into the scale on the inside. I believe they are horn and I do not see any worm holes. Other than the cut on the inside I just see some minor chips.

Looks like a great score. I keep meaning to go by some of the antique stores to see about straights. One of these days. Good luck with those beauties!

Thanks! I've come across some good buys at antique stores at times; other times they can be very overpriced.

I think I am going to bag the scales... I worked on it a little today and was able to smooth out the one scale nicely to get rid of the chips. Problem is I don't see a way of straightening the warped scale. Soooo, I will use the inlay and the wedge on the new set of scales so at least there will be some of it "living on" :biggrin1:

I think I'll start a resto thread on the restoration sub forum.
