What's new

My New Feather SS

These pictures have been requested by my B & B pal, Kooze. I just received my new Feather razor in today's mail. I must say, the razor is absolutely flawless with great attentional to detail:

I have a quick question for the photographers out there. I apologize for the picture quality; I used an inexpensive digital camera with the macro setting. How might I enhance the crispness of closeups?

what camera are you using? I take all my pics with my point and shoot Lumix DMC-ZS10 (16x zoom) it has a macro function and seems to take good enough "bathroom" photos...

I take my raw pics into photoshop and work them over before saving and uploading. I try not to "enhance" them as I want to show a good representation of what I am seeing

I you see the blue tile in my pics the shot was taken in my shave den with natural light using my point and shoot.

If you see a brown carpet background like the AS-D1 above the pic was taken in my basement on my MP4 copy camera

Congrats. I received mine two weeks ago. I love it. If you don't get that BBS shave right away stick with it. It took me 4 days to get the right angle of attack. The extremely smooth shave doesn't help speed the learning curve

BTW. I have a series of photos almost identical to yours. My wife thinks I am obsessed...I guess rightly so. :eek2:

I have been wondering about that,I don't know if it's been discussed before, but if I were to shave with the Feather AS I think I would change some variables like thin out my lather quite a bit ? Make any sense to anyone ?

They're beautiful razors Mendel,enjoy it.

It is a very mild razor with a very narrow "sweet spot" You need to be very in tune with your technique. You need to move your arm like a machine so that you do not vary the angle of the head on your face as you shave.

Once you understand and master this, you will get great shaves out of the AS-D1 razor.

What you lather with or how thick or thin your lather is does not matter. It is your consistency in maintaining the proper angle of the head that will make it a wonderful razor for you or put it on BST for someone else to try.

The R41 and AS-D1 are the most frequently resold razors as they both require a lot more effort than just picking it up and moving it around on your face to get a good shave.

I would not thin the lather more than you are used to using, just rinse The razor more often. I used the lather to help fine tune my angle before I got used to the feel of this razor cutting. Clean skin equaled edge of blade on skin. When you are too shallow it would leave residue. At least this helped me a lot.

Congrats on the pick-up. Unfortunately, for me, i could not get used to mine so it is going on the BST next week when my 14-day waiting period is over!
Good luck!

Congrats Mendel, Awesome Choice, Remember stick with it for a few weeks or a month but you also may be one of the lucky ines that find its sweet spot after the Second or Third shave )

Sorry to hear that, but I don't think you will have any trouble selling it. I've been reading they fly off the listings.

If the camera is fully functional and is indeed set on Macro then one suggestion would be to pay attention at the two-stage release button. Just ease up on the release button giving time for the camera to adjust depth and then fully press the button. Also you have to check the setting of the focus (set it up on center).
I too like the Feather AS-D1 and also adjust the lather a bit, not much.
I totally agree with eizan70 about "The extremely smooth shave doesn't help speed the learning curve". The blade is so snug in this razor and the geometry is such that there is no vibration nor audible feedback. This razor loaded with a Feather Hi-Stainless blade just glides on the skin. Kind of boring but very smooth.
I must admit I was never able to achieve BBS but get DFS every time.
There is something about the steel, the weight, the balance, the way it slides on skin that makes me go back to using it.
Enjoy your new razor.

Congrats on your Feather.

This photo was with a Canon Power Shot (a point and shoot model really)
Use a Macro setting if you have it, lots of light (set your camera for the kind of light you have) and steady your camera on something.

Thanks, and i am not worried. i am sure i will be able to sell it. Beautifully made razor, but did not work for me as my open-combs do. As always, YMMV!
You will be seeing it on the BST, this coming week!

I'll try to stay away from BST this coming week. I already have a back-up, I must resist. I already have a back-up, I must resist. I already .....

Good choice my friend. Truly a remarkable razor. I love my Feather AS Razor. It's like learning to shave with a DE for the very first time. Stick with it and it will deliver. No question. Silky smooth and no irrational. Not to mention it's heft and sheer beauty.
