What's new

My latest method. Thoughts welcome

I'm new to the old way of shaving, and haven't acquired a DE or straight yet. However I have been playing with the lather method to try and stop razor burn. Below is the best I have found to date.

I have a Williams puck that I shaved into a small glass condiment container
I have Aloe Vera gel. The green stuff you use for sun burns.
I have Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil.
I have suave coconut conditioner
I have Hawaiian Tropic Sun Tan Lotion (kept in the fridge)

Take a soup cup and set it with a sink of scolding hot water filled 1/2 up the side of the cup.

Drop my disposable razor into the water.

Dip my Badger hair brush ($12 at The Nordstrom Rack) into the water.

Drip the water into the Williams puck dish.

Get my face wet with the now hot water.

Apply the conditioner to my face.

Load up the brush in the Williams dish.

Empty the soup cup.

Drop a almond size glop of aloe gel and 2 drops of the Vaseline gel into the soup cup.

Work up a thick lather in the cup adding a few drops of water at a time.

Apply to face using the brush and shave WTG.

Re-apply lather to face using the brush.

Use wet hand to find stubble and shave ATG.

Use the Sun Tan Lotion as an aftershave.
Any Thoughts???

Incredibly interesting method by using mostly non-shaving related products. I like it! :thumbup1:

I sometimes substitute the Williams for the bar of Yardleys Almond or Lime scented soap.

Most of that is unnecessary, but if it works, it works, right?
As your skills and lathering get better, you'll probably be able to simply your routine a bit without suffering any harm.

You forgot the peanutbutter.

Yum!! Peanut Butter (runs off to fix a sandwich)....:w00t::w00t:

Ok, I am back. (chomp, chomp, munch, munch) :biggrin1:: Williams on it's own is not a very good shaving soap, so I can understand why you are adding things to it. If you pick up a quality shaving soap though you wouldn't need to add all of that stuff too it. :thumbup1:

I started with soaps when all the goop cans started giving me razor burn. I haven't been able to find any shaving soaps in my area. The Williams is about it. I agree that its not a great soap. When I use the Yardley soaps they lather better. I'm waiting for the Williams to be gone so I can switch to something else. Any suggestions on a good shaving soap that can be bought in a local store? Henry's, Sprouts, Fresh and Easy, Trader Joe's, CVS, Ralphs, Target, Rite aid, etc... I want to be able to go and smell it before I buy it. I dont want to shave with bear shiste scented soap. The Williams has that classic shave smell.

The process I use is what has solved my razor burn. Its taken about 6 months to get to this point. It also does not clog my el-crapo razor like straight soap, or goop in a can does. If there is a better soap that will do the same I will gladly try it.

I do get an okey lather with the Williams on its own. It makes a thicker foam than goop in a can. The extra stuff provides the lube. I have tried shaving with each on its own just to see what each does. On their own, they all suck.
