My latest crazy handle idea

Random idea I had this morning - to try to hook a DE razor head to a SE razor ornate handle.

Basically, you'd need a cylinder of brass of the diameter of the neck of a standard DE New bar handle, and then drill one end to create threads to fit a DE head, and the other end to create threads to fit a SE handle (I believe it would be a female-type adaptor on both ends and of the same type of threads, as my ornate handle screws into a DE handle pretty well, but I don't know for sure).

I don't know if a cylinder is the best idea as you'd need to grip it with something to get it snug, unless I epoxied the cylinder to the ornate handle to make assembly/disassembly easier. Now that I think about it, permanently epoxying the handle to the cylinder is probably a good idea so you could use the assembly just like a regular DE handle.

Does anyone else think of ideas like this, or just me? :001_rolle

Don't know. I have a friend who is a bronze sculptor. He says the old Gillettes, like the New, are really closer to sculptural bronze than to brass. He is sculpting a handle for me. I asked if he knows someone who machines bronze. I await an answer.

Thanks for asking, and what kind of handle? (Thinking, "Ooooo, custom handle!")

If you want to make it permanent why not cut the threads off the chain link handle and drill and tap it to match the DE head? No adapter needed then.

I think that the ornate handle head is too narrow to drill and tap. Besides, I'd like a bit more length and either way involves machining brass which is far beyond my skill.

Hey - I can get a male-female adaptor! Wonder if I can hook an ornate handle up to a Damaskeene that way . . .

OK, I may be clueless when it comes to this, but I can't figure out which standoff will fit a standard SE handle/DE razor post at 10-32. I can find standoffs in 1/4" diameter externally that are, say, 1/2" long, but I can't figure out what the internal diameter is to ensure that it would fit.

I tried to make some (crude) measurements with a ruler, and I get 3/16" diameter for the male thread (including the center solid post and the extra diameter associated with the spiral part). Since my SE handle screws into my DE handles, I am assuming that 3/16" is the diameter there.

Does anyone know how to figure out what the internal diameter of these standoffs is and how to make sure to get the right one? I am thinking that I may be better off going to a hardware store with my handles to try to figure this out.

OK, take thirty-two . . . have learned that 10-32 IS the screw size, and presumably a 1/2 " long standoff in 10-32 in hex or round (stainless) will work just fine. Will check out a 1/4" diameter to see how it works and maybe get some pics when I get this vaguely figured out.

I obviously understand tools and building as much as a yeti understands particle physics, so this ought to be amusing if nothing else!

By the way, I am wondering if I can jury-rig some adapters to downshift a 10-32 regular handle to the 8-32 or 6-32 threading on a Damaskeene (can't find anything definitive on which it is, but for $6 plus tax for an additional adaptor it's not a big deal).

Nemo is right - get a standoff. One with M5x0.8 thread so it would work with all razor heads both metric and Imperial.
I have attached a wrong image and do not know how to remove it. The standoff should have two female threads.

There are all kind of adapters. Google and you'll find some.
