My great grandfather's straights

:jump::jump::jump:

I finally got my great grandfather's straights from my aunt, and they are in fantastic shape!

View attachment 62074

The black one is a Vom Cleff from Germany. 4/8 extra hollow, celluloid scales.

The yellow one is one of my new favorite blades. 4/8 full hollow, lacquered bone scales. I love the scales it has. A bit of rust on the top jimps, but I will take care of that.

Both razors have top and bottom jimps, and both are really solid and in fantastic shape. I wish they were 5/8, but I guess ya can't have it all :lol:. I will cherish these for the rest of my life :001_tt1:.

Sadly, his (most likely also 4/8 full hollow), Genco didn't make it. Cell rot, and in the worst way. It looks like it hadn't been fixed since it first got the rot many decades ago. The blade literally crumbled into red dust in my hands, and the scales were brittle and nasty. They were also missing some pieces...

It's okay though, I didn't even know he had more than one straight, and I've got two now plus some DE's :biggrin:.

Those a great looking razors! Nice find!

That's awesome. Sharpen them up and get shaving. I have my Great Grandfathers straight razor, I enjoy using it immensely.

They are in excellent shape! Just polish them up and hone them and they'll be shaving better than anything you can get new these days.

Actually, one of them is darn close to shave ready already :lol:.

These are no ebay specials. I've only had two other razors come to me this nice out of the box. One was purchased shave ready, and the other was from the bay but had apparently been well cared for.

I feel so special, getting blades that aren't one step away from emitting their last dying gasp. :biggrin:

They're awesome! Great find and for 4/8 they look pretty big. From the looks of the image they are much more 4/8+.

Very nice! I have my grandfather's DEs and shave brush. It is very special to have that connection to them, isn't it? Enjoy!
