My First Tread & a new addition to my shve process

While still new to DE shaving (about 3 months now), I think I found a new way to improve my Pre-shave technique. I bought a bottle of Johnson's Baby Oil gel with Aloe Vera ($3 at Dollar store) to try as a Pre-shave oil. I pur it on before showering (while I mess about and try to understand why the bathroom scale always reads high). Buy the time I wash it off in the shower it has sofened my face and beard and I am ready to lather up!

I did not try it without washing it off in shower because I was afraid it would gunk up my Rooney1/2 brush.

Has anyone else tried this. I have found the Pre-shave oils being sold to be ineffective for me, but this actually helps.:biggrin1:

Welcome, make yourself comfortable and embrace your AD's.

I use proraso pre shave and it gunks up my blade plenty.
I've given up on it unless I use a cheap cream.

As far as the scale goes, we must have the same one. Mine always reads heavy.

Some swear by using pre-shave oil. I tried it then did the same routine without it, no difference, so I stopped using it. Bottom line is, if it works for you, that's good. It's even better if you are happy with it! :thumbup1:

I usually get in the shower and rub some regular soap in my bear. I rinse that soap at the end and it's perfect for me.

I looked up Johnson's Baby Oil to find out what kind of oil it is. Just: Mineral oil & fragrance. Johnsons says mineral hold ten times more moisture than any other oil which would seem to explain its success in softening you beard. Sounds like a good preshave to me, and cheap too. But, what's mineral oil?
