I recommend starting with one of the less expensive Lamy pens. Sturdy and will give you an idea of whether you want to spend a little more or not.
I've had Parkers before and I found the bodies to be too fat, the nibs to be too wide and their ink cartridges to be way too wet. I now carry a Pelikan M400 that I bought from www.RichardsPens.com and absolutely LOVE it. It's a piston-filler, so I can use whatever ink I want and it writes wonderfully. It was originally more $$ than I was planning on spending, but now I consider it a good value. I plan on using this pen for a looong time.
I just picked up a fountain pen.
I have only ever had one previous, a Pilot disposable(before the varsity)
This one is not much better, but is refillable.
A Platinum Preppy pen from Japan. It only cost me $5, and writes very well considering.
I am a lefty, so I want to test the waters before I get anything substantial.
The one on the top.
