Well I took a day off work today and decided to check out the antique shop that I was supposed to visit last weekend. Well I got a result and according to the fella there (it's his dad's shop) when his dad gets back from holiday tomorrow he'll look for some more straights as he's sure that there are some kicking about.
Without further a do I give you my 2 Fanal (about $2.50 for the statesiders):
Well she was a bit rusty, but what do you expect for the price of a beer? So I took her home and thought I'd have a go with some wetdry sandpaper and the dremel.
The result isn't perfect but I've set the bevel and she is popping hairs on my forearm like there's no tomorrow:
As you can see I've not managed to get rid of all the battle scars but with the limited polishing compounds I've got (well just the one - Dremel's own that came with the Dremel itself) I'm more than happy with the work.
Now to get it shave ready on Monday and give it a test run - first find, first hone! Wish me luck.
I'm going to go back to the shop on Monday if it's open so I'll see if I can get some more neglected ladies!
By the way the blade was made in Solingen by a chap called Wilhelm Krüth who was making them under this name since before WWII so might be older than it looks!
