My first face lather with my first vintage razor shave!

Hi All,

So I purchase my first DE razors about a month ago, and been shaving with them ever since (thanks to the great people and info on this forum).

However for the life of me I couldn't get a great lather in the mug. Then I read a post on this forum last night where a member suggested trying face lathering, and he said "you lather your face, not your mug".

And i I had a really bad day today with my 3 week old new car getting hit on the highway by a small boulder (15" in diameter" bouncing out of a dump truck and hitting my car.

Soooooo.....after getting hem from the dealership dropping off my car and dealing with insurance, I decided to use some elbow grease and clean and sanitize some vintage razors I've purchased off ebay recently (again thanks to the advice on this forum) while listening to big band/swing music to get to complete the mood.

So after using scrubbing bubbles several times, a lit touch up with Maas, and a bath in Barbicide I decided to try my first ever face lather using for the first time vintage razor.

WOW! It was downright, unequivocally, undeniably awesome.

Ive attached a pic of some of my new razors. I used the one in the foreground today to shave with, and will use the background one tomorrow.

Congrats on the success. Yes, its true that you lather your face and not the bowl, but the bowl is a great place to mix up your lather. All it takes is a bit of practice until you get the lather the way you want it. Try several practice lathers and I'm sure you'll get it in time.

Doing a face lather is a better way of doing it as this will really set up those whiskers for a great shave. Again do the same practice lathers until you get it down. Either way is fine, bowl or face. Just find the way that works best for you.

Welcome aboard. Those are really nice looking razors. On this forum you will find folks who prefer brush lathering and those who prefer to make their lather in a bowl. I face lathered for around 2 1/2 years before I decided to learn how to create my own rich lather in a bowl. I make enough for a 3 pass shave plus touch-ups. For me part of the joy of shaving is creating the lather and experimenting with mixing soaps and creams together. Also, with a bowl you can keep the lather warm like the barber shops of old. There are several videos that show how to make lather in a bowl, if you are interested. Check out the videos on shavenation.com. Geo also has videos on brush and razor cleaning. The important thing is to have fun and enjoy the hobby.
