My First-And Last-Scuttle

It was inevitable. Combine smooth pottery with wet hands and add slick lather and it was bound to happen. Dropped and broke my G20 scuttle this morning. It slipped out of my hands post shave while pouring the water out. A bad start to a bad day. I don't think I will replace it, that was $80 down the drain. Think I will look go back to the oversized soup mug instead.

I bought a gorgeous, hand-made pottery bowl at Goodwill for $4. The glaze matches my shaving brush, and it is an awesome bowl for shaving cream.

Sorry to hear about your G20 scuttle.

Sorry for your loss. This is the reason I keep telling myself no when it comes to scuttles. I have a tiny shave den and I know that if I'm moving a towel or turn too quickly something as nice as a shaving scuttle will be destroyed.

Sorry to hear about your scuttle. It stinks to spend good money and watch it slip from your hands and tumble towards the sink, tub or floor. You spent more than good money.

I learned my lesson like that on a Muhle ceramic shave bowl, the one with the silver rim. Loved that thing, for exactly 2 weeks. I decided that was the last $40 I was spending on something that was sure to be dropped or slip at least 1% of the time. Over 250+ shaves per year that means it will slip or I will actually drop it a minimum of 2-3 times a year. I went to World Market and picked up some cheap miso / small soup bowl for $5. When I break it, and I will, I'll go get another one with a pattern I like for another $5.

That's my solution. Hope you find one you can live with.

That stinks! This is the reason I haven't bought a Moss scuttle. I dropped my 2$ salsa bowl a couple times. Add to that, a (stupid) bowl sink on top of glass, surrounded by tile.

I use a blue mug from a camper coffee percolator set well at least I will when my stuff arrives. Should be by the end of the week.

I should really stop using my bowl. I know one day the inevitable will happen and I'll hate myself as it's a bowl I've had since I was a child. There's a kitchen shop near me that does nice cream/white bowls and I should buy one. At least they wont have sentimental value.

Sorry for your loss. This is probably the main reason I have yet to purchase a scuttle. I did purchase a hand thrown pottery bowl in Gatlinburg, TN not that long ago. It was $20 which is about as much as I'm willing to lose if/when I eventually drop it.

I have GP scuttle that has become nothing more than a place to rest my brush as I've moved on to face lathering.

Cannot beat those $1.50 salsa bowls at Wal Mart. Many colors from which to choose and virtually indestructible.

If I am not using one of my Beckers I store it in a safe place out of fear of the same thing.
