My Favourite Shaving Mug!

Here is some pictures of my shaving mug, made from a mortar and Pestle.
I took a can of apple juice and cut some holes in it for air, the pestle (or is it the mortar) dropped into the can about 1/2".
Covered the can with tinfoil, dropped in a candle (tea-light).
It is good because the inside of the mug is not glazed, it is a little rough which I think helps to whip up a good lather.
It keeps the lather nice an warm for as long as I want.
Cost about $10.00, an be purchased at any store that sells kitchen ware.

Sweet design on a couple levels. I could see that being made market ready and selling!
i think i have seen some incense burners that use a bowl over a flame, i would think that with a little hunting, we could seek out just such a thing that is sized right and re-purpose it...i will check around..

edit: apparently they are called "oil diffusers" or "aroma lamps" I cannot seem tho to find one with a large enough bowl, and many are made of soapstone...but they all work with tea lights

I will keep searching...

Ooh, very DIY cool. Somebody should definitely be able to find something that would work with it, like a potpourri pot, maybe?

I've seen these, problem is the "bowl" which burns the incense is only big enough to hold maybe a few ml's since you don't burn very much at a time... Maybe there are bigger ones, but I never saw one big enough to whip up lather with that I can think of.

Do you ever put out the candle while bringing the brush back to the bowl, or is the slit small enough that it doesn't get close enough? I would probably have to watch myself more, I usually swing around the brush with no care, I end up getting lather all over the place!

Nice. My son is studying industrial design in college, and I got him started with DE this year. We kicked around a similar idea. I wondered if it might be beneficial to have a variable (either height or intensity) flame heat a liquid (water or maybe something else more optimal for the purpose) that would ciculate. Didn't get any further than thinking about it. Could be a fun project, though.
