Yesterday, I received a shave ready 15/16 Enterprise branded Solingen full hollow razor from BST Hobbyist/Vendor Noahpictures. Excellent value for the price. His current posting on the Hobbyist/Vendor forum has a picture of this monster. It is incredible!
I have about 50 straight shaves in and getting better all of the time. I have four Gold Dollars (one I bought shave ready, three that I have honed myself), three Dovos, all bought new (a Best, a Special and a Superior Shave plain Bismarck), a W&B 5/8 hollow I bought from another BST member a few weeks ago, and an old 4/8 that was a friend's grandfather. Most of these razors are 6/8, the others 5/8. Just to see if it was true that a larger width razor is easier to grip and the additional weight makes for a better shave, I ordered the Enterprise.
I was afraid of the square point (Noah blunted it a little for me) and about the maneuverability of a large razor around my fat little face. At least at my first use, I can say that neither fear was justified. I like the hand feel of this larger razor and the extra width did not impede my facial navigation. I think that the extra weight adds to the cutting power and I really like being able to shave half my face without wiping the blade. And, the razor was brilliant in its shave readiness.
I think that I will use it for the next four shaves to see if it is really as good as I think it is. More to follow.
