My Creed misfortune...Shame on me for not listening!

Being frugal (and a father of four youngsters who must be provided for) I decided to buy a 4 oz. bottle of Creed Erolfa (my wife's favorite on me:drool:) from Perfume Network. It arrived promptly, but to my horror it smelled like I would imagine yak urine smelling like:thumbdown. As far as I can tell, the bottle and packaging were authentic. The product must have been old because I got some hints of Erolfa, but it smelled like it had really "turned". Good thing they allow returns. I was out a little return shipping, and suffered from shame over not listening to repeated warnings to buy only from reputable dealers.

Now, not being able to afford full retail Creed prices I decided to take another shot at low priced Creed. Am I a fool? I would like to think not, but here goes. I purchased a flacon of Erolfa from FragranceNet. Their price was $185 with free shipping, and I had a coupon code for 15% off. $156 total for a $320 retail flacon! As I await its arrival, I ask again..."Am I an idiot for thinking that I'll get good, authentic, reasonably fresh juice?" Time will tell I guess. I've heard so many good things about FragranceNet. I hope they can deliver. If not, then I guess I'll give up on buying anything but decants of the stuff from reputable decanters.

Aaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

p.s. I suppose I could ask Creed this, but does anyone here know the answer to the following: Has Creed changed their packaging from Green flacon bottles to Clear glass flacons with the Creed stemme on them? If so, maybe that's why FragranceNet has such a great price. Simply clearing out stock with the old packaging.

Fragrancenet is usually pretty legit. You should be just fine. And the green flacons are the old style, but they only recently changed them over to the clear, and your Erolfa is probably ok.

Erolfa can be a bit tricky, though. I've smelled batches where the topnotes were a bit fresher and the overall composition was cleaner somehow, and batches that are flatter and a lot more briney and salty.

Ask yourself, "Do I like the smell of what I've got enough to be happy paying what I paid for it?"

Whew...thanks for the reassurance. Trust me though...the bottle I got from Perfume Network smelled like funk, and nothing but funk.:thumbdown Samples of legit and fresh juice from NM make it clear to me that my 4 oz. bottle was rancid stuff

I got my flacon of Erolfa for about the same when fragrancenet.com had the 15% off coupon last year. Clear glass flacon, incredibly salty/citrusy FRESH juice. One thing about fragrancenet though, they need to use more packing materials/peanuts.

My experience with Fragrancenet was with MI and it's the real deal. (But the atomizer is acting hinky...hmmm).

I do think there is a fair amount of variance from one batch to another with some of the Creeds which feeds into much of the paranoia about fakes. If their hype is true that they use a lot of natural ingredients, I can see where this would cause some variations.

I have a guess that some of their newer frags (Original Vetiver, Original Santal, SMW) make heavier use of synthetics which allows for a more consistent product.

And yes, as Dullah said and many who've used them echo, they're idiots when it comes to packaging glass bottles. Who here would send a little one ounce bottle to a friend in a box big enough for a pair of men's shoes with one piece of paper wrapped around it?

Why do people order from this place if their packing is so bad? There are so many discounters...do they have stuff no one else does? Personally I would just buy elsewhere if possible.

I don't by Creed, but 99perfume, perfumecountry, perfumeemporium, and beautyencounter don't seem to have any problems with packing.

Primarily because they do have a rep for stocking authentic Creed product at good prices. And by all accounts they do make good if anything happens during shipping.
I bought 1 oz of MI for $70. It's $120 at Nieman Marcus.

People who buy Creed live in well advised fear of fakes and Fragrancenet has a rep for stocking the real deal.

Sorry for the loose wording. Let me put it this way - I've never, to the best of my memory, had a bad experience with fragrancenet, and I've bought from most of the major online fragrance retailers several times as well (just for the sake of comparison)

Thanks. I knew exactly what you were getting at. I didn't feel your wording was too loose. My bottle should be here on Wednesday. I'll try to remember to post how it turns out.

I have bought several times from them and am satisfied. Not Creed, though. My wife has been shopping from fragranceNet for years.

I just got a bottle of SMW from fragrancenet, and found that the bottle is in authentic as well as fresh. Very happy with my purchase.

I've received two shipments of Creed scents from FragranceNet and both were well packed and fresh juice.
People have been complaining about it for awhile, so they must've started packing things better. I've ordered I think 4 scents from them, u=including flacons of Selection Verte and Erolfa, and the juice was always perfectly fresh. Might make another order with the current promotion they have going.

Quick update...buyers beware! Perfume Network (1stperfume.com) charged me a 15% restocking fee, plus I had to pay return shipping on the spoiled juice:angry: Paypal didn't back me up, saying they don't get involved in disputes over product quality. I'll still keep arguing via email/phone...I'm out $30:thumbdown
