My Blade Experiences

I've been trying my sampler pack for a bit now and my two favorite brand of blades so far are Bluebird and Gilette 7 O'Clocks. I've gotten my best shaves with these two. What have your experiences been? As of this moment I've tried the following:

Astra
Bluebird
Derby
Feather
Gilette 7 O'Clocks
Shark
Wilkinson Sword

Any other brand I should try? I wasn't too impressed with Feather blades. I didn't like the Derby much and Shark was okay.

I have some Personna Med Preps that I can send you if you would like to try them. They are my favorites over Derby, Personna Reds, and Merkur.

PM me where I can send them, PIF, thank you for your service!!!!

Thank you. I will definitely let you know what I think about them!

The blue and black 7 O'Clocks are both very good blades. If I had any left, I'd be more than happy to send you some of both.

I have now tried: Timor, Derby,Gillette platinum blue, Merkur, Lords...and Feather
for me Feather wins so far, Gillette a close second..., Derby is good but not gonna be stocking these likely they were better with shave 2 and 3 than 1 for sone reason, very smooth shave but some residual burn that keeps me from being overjoyed by them.
Lords and timors are going in the drawer..no good, lots of irritation.
Merkurs weren't bad, will give a second chance soon

I just got a self made sampler I am waiting to try...7oclock blues and blacks, Astra sp, personna reds and labs

I also have a small sample set. I liked the lord platinum, the shark sc, and the astra so far. Like you I haven't tried many. Oddly the gillette green didn't work well for me. There were on 2-5 of each type of razor though. So, I'll be trying some of them again in other razors later when I get another sampler.

By all means please let me know how you like those once you try them out. I wasn't impressed with Derby as well, but I will give them another shot soon. I finally "mastered" my technique using Bluebirds so the initial bad impression of previous blades should be taken with a grain of salt until I give them another go-around. I wasn't impressed with Feathers and now are back to using them in my rotation with today being the first shave of this rotation, and I was not impressed. We'll see tomorrow!

I will have to get my hands on Lord platinums. I guess many other factors go into how a blade performs as well with the actual razor playing a part, as I imagine razors would present a different razor blade angle which would then have to require you to use a different angle to shave with...(not fact, just merely conjecture on my part)

i doubt i will go back to using the lords i have from my sampler, i think there are 4 left, if you want i wouldnt mind trading to try the gillette greens, PM me if interested...i still havent tried the Wilkinson swords i have, dont see much about them discussed here

I just got through trying the Lord Platinums, and I thought they were a very good blade. Not the longest-lasting blade around, but you can forgive that at their price point. It also seemed like a very smooth blade. I'm set to try the Lord Super Chromes, Sharks Super Stainless, and Shark SC's next.

Gillette Silver Blue
Personna Red

Astras work very well for two days, but hurt me on the third. Don't like the glue, either. Makes cleaning the razor a chore.

I will try the Gillette Silver Blues and Personnas, thanks for the suggestions! The Astras didn't cut it for me and I did note that they tend to have too much glue on them as well.

Let's do that, I'll PM you.

I tried the Personna Med Prep blades that hillbilly pick sent me and I must say that I am very impressed. The blades are sharp, the shave was smooth, and the results were impressive. After my initial shave, I like these over the Feather blades! Less irritation compared to the minor irritation I feel with the Feather in certain parts of my face (probably due to my poor technique rather than the blade, but I didn't feel it with the Personna Med Preps) Thanks again hillbilly pick!

Glad that you like them!
