MWF v. Semogue

I received my 1305 from Vintage Scents and it is a very nice looking brush and
feels nice when I use my cream but MWF is my daily soap. Let's just say I've been very disappointed with the lather raised from my 1305 (or lack of) but it whips it up nice with TOBS cream and even Cella.

I really hope it just needs to be broken in but has anyone had issues with the brush/MWF combo? I battled MWF to get the right water/soap combo and it works amazing now with my badgers. I need some good news here or I have to switch something.

As you've already mentioned MWF is a bit finicky at times. I prefer a more stiff brush with MWF. The BBE and my Simpsons Major in Best are the two best brushes I have for MWF use. Just keep at it.

I think your best bet with MWF would be badger hair brushes. A soap that needs more work might benefit from the warm moist hair of the badger brush. Creams are more forgiving and it's pretty hard to not get a good lather from them no matter which brush you use.

I'd agree with that for certain! If you can't lather a cream you are bound to have issues with MWF and other soaps.

Hello,

I struggled with MWF myself for quite some time.
Posted elsewhere and got a lot of useful advice here at B&B.

Nowadays I use the exact combination of Semogue 1305 and MWF, and experience no problems at all. Easy lathering, in maybe one or two swirls more (that is one second extra work) than Mama Bear's.

My formula to master turned out to be a not too wet Semogue (or else the lather will be thin) and a few drops of hot water on the MWF. Satisfaction guaranteed.

So my guess is you'll manage, no need to change.

MWF is a pain to lather, I know.
To me the best way to make lather out of it is load a not very wet 620 (similar to 1520) brush and spend some time loading it.
Wet your face and face lather. Voilá! Lather all around your face!
MWF takes a while to lather, but it provides a cushioned, protective lather to shave.

Load your dry brush until you think you have to much soap and then face lather adding a small amount of water at a time. Really load up the brush.

I have found that by continually adding a tablespoon or even a teaspoon of water on the puck that the puck absorbs the water and starts to swell up, and become waterlogged.

Face lather is the way to go. Actually like it more than bowl lather, feels good on the face and you can control the lather a lot better. Thank you gentlemen!
