MWF Lid not fitting properly?

I tried searching and haven't found this topic, if it's been covered I apologize.

I purchased a MWF bowl and puck from Westcoast which shipped quickly and packaged everything safely, thanks WCS. When I opened my MWF box everything was intact. I removed all the protective sheeting and put together my soap bowl and lid.

The lid however, does not sit evenly on the bowl. Now I know hand turned pottery doesn't always fit like something mass produced to specific specifications, so my question is this.

Is it common or normal to have a MWF lid that does not sit flatly on the ceramic bowl, or did I get a warped lid which mistakenly passed their QA?

If I'm being honest, for 20 dollars that the bowl cost me, I was expecting a higher quality.

Thanks.

Although it sounds from other members that the askance lid fit is normal, I'm with you. For the price of that bowl, they should get it right.

It's supposed to look a little "rustic" and handmade.
There are folks who like that look. I do.
I'm sure you know of people who beat a piece of furniture with chains and the like so that it is purposefully "distressed" just for the look. It certainly doesn't add specifically to the intrinsic value.

Unless you have >0.2 inch or so of unevenness, I wouldn't worry about it. These, as you noted, are not perfect and you'd expect some variation

Und if you vant a jar zat iz made to zee tightest tolerances, you should purchase un jar made by de TABAC! Un it eez ver gut!

I checked mine and it fits flat on the top but has some side to side play which is perfectly acceptable. I enjoy the presentation of this piece very much and don't think a little warp in the lid would bother me.

Doug

But I did!! I fully enjoyed the tabac this morning to boot  That simple glass jar with resin top is a cleaner more quality appearance then a hand thrown ceramic jar with a lid that rattles and shakes in my opinion.

As for the gap, it measures 7/32's so that's just shy of a quarter inch.

I sell hardwood floors that are beaten with chains. They're more expensive than the floors that aren't beaten with chains.

I am not surprised yours is a little off kilter. My lid fits fairly evenly but I can detect some variation. The most glaring defect in mine is that the outer wall thickness of the bowl lip varies, at one point there is a very slight crack at one edge of the bowl, just at the top lip, where it is most thickest, as if it was fired at too hot of temperature for the thickness of clay, but the crack is only at the surface. It has not affected the function and I am still a fan of MWF and the ceramic bowl, I think they got it the ratio on these items right so many years ago. Whom ever settled on the final design of MWF soap+bowl so many years ago was very perceptive. :thumbup1:
