Mushroom season

It's definitely mushroom season.

Firstly. Rule. Don't munch on a hunch.

If you don't know conclusively, don't eat it.

I've been at it for almost 5 years now and I've been in the bush with experienced people to start. I would never do this alone without some sort of initial training/experience. I am also consulting with local experts on Facebook for additional confirmations.

Mushrooms can absolutely kill you if you make mistakes.

That being said. Mushrooms are out. It's been raining and warm here, so they're fruiting readily.

I've got loads of pics of others, but these ones are getting processed for my pantry.

Big ones are Elm Oyster mushrooms.
Smaller white ones are Shaggy Mane and the other ones are Fairy Ring mushrooms.

I've eaten a ton of elm oysters. I ate those Shaggys, they're the first I've gotten this season. And I'm going to dry the Fairy Rings after my previous batch of elm oysters get out. (then I can go to bed).

The Elm Oysters reduce almost 90% in weight.

I've done a bunch with them so far.

I've harvested a morel or two over the years, unfortunately they seem to have a laxative effect on my wife and I.

That's no fun at all.

I haven't really had morels, just haven't encountered any. I honestly can't recall purchasing any either.

Elm Oysters are pretty mild mushrooms.

Shaggy Mane have a reagent in them that potentially reacts to alcohol for up to 72 hours after, and maybe even if you've had alcohol up to 72 hours prior.

Is unfortunate that you folks don't react well to mushrooms.

I tend to be a bit mushroom-averse, but mainly because as a kid I was "forcibly encouraged" to eat them. A mother who believed a pork chop should be crisp as a cracker did not do well with mushrooms. The Major would cook what he foraged, and that was OK. Usually Chanterelles.

We have a boatload of Shaggy Manes and some other types that come up from the compost piles. A few Morels, but man you gotta be fast to get them before Princess Flapdoodle the Operatic Dachshund does.

We've been off mushrooms for a few years due to some sudden intense allergy reactions, but things are getting better. We had some in a stew lately and didn't suffer any ill effects.

O.H.

Update after dehydrating a bunch.

Spore print off an Agaricus sp. (not enough magnification to tell for sure, but not bad for a cellphone, more than 200x. Clip on 20x macro lens, 10x optical on cell. Microscope calibration slide. Need at least 400x).
