Muhle 'Retro' & Simpsons Classic CL2 'Silvertip'

Good morning chaps.

This week I took ownership of two brushes... Hope you enjoy some pics

Right out of the box, both brushes look fantastic. And, no funk. Nothing. Just straight up high end badger to love

Some handy comparison shots...
First up, I'll put the Classic in-between a Duke 3 in two band on the left and and to the right, a Tulip 3 Manchurian.

The Muhle, well, I don't own any other Muhle brushes to compare it too. So, I went with SEXY.

The Muhle had a Simpsons Tulip 3 to the left, and the fabulous Da Vinci 'Uomo' to the right. Check out the Muhle knot up close. Dense.

I'm a face latherer. But for the sake of break in, I whip up some lather in my Steve Woodhead scuttle.

What I love about doing these threads, apart from enabling, is I get to use up creams/soaps I just don't like. And Proraso new formulation is high on the list. It smells like old socks. Damp, been buried in the back garden for two months, old socks.

I bought my Simpsons Classic CL2 in silvertip for use exclusively with soaps, so thought I should show how it handles its business.

Well I've used each brush once. And my initial impressions are this... The Simpsons is so dense, it's fantastic. The lather it easily makes is so creamy, with so little effort, it feels like I'm cheating the shaving Gods.
Not one hair lost, and no funk. Yes it's a luxury brush, three band super (silvertip) on such a small brush, but, well, why not.
Love the lettering too on the handle. The handle is a little longer than my Duke 1 with in my opinion, makes it a bit more comfortable to use. But then my Duke is a travel brush anyway, and amazing at that.

The Muhle retro, well, again it's a looker. It has shed about ten hairs or so, but none in the last lathering so I think that's the worst of it over with. Not as soft on the face as the Simpsons, in fact, I find it a little on the prickly side. But it's early days yet and I'll update as to how that develops with use. The knot reminds me an awful lot of my Kent BK8, only not nearly as dense, and a lot firmer. Love the handle, it weighs great in hand, and very comfortable. Love the blue too.

I'm looking forward to using both brushes with a shave stick...

Hope you enjoyed and feel totally enabled :thumbup1:

How is the classic 2 vs the duke? I have been thinking of getting one or the other. I like something with a good amount of scrub with a dense and short knot

I'll post a comparison pic up later, I have a Duke 1 in best. My initial feelings are the classic is far denser. Both knots are short, so foppishness isn't an issue for either brush.

I've had my Mühle Retro series brush for two days now. Here it is between a Carrington Custom 25mm silvertip and a flat-top prototype 27mm. I've noticed a tiny amount or prickieness, too, but I've only used it twice. I expect things will change as the brush breaks in. I'll report here in this thread from time to time.

Beauties!

I love the blue coloured handle on our Muhle, I must say. Good to hear I'm not the only one when it comes to the prickly feel, I thought I was going soft.

As requested, a quick comparison shot between the Classic CL2 in silvertip and my Duke 1 in best. The Wee Scot joined in for fun...

A few twirls over the left over bits of a MWF puck...
And then a rinse.

I think from these pictures you can see just flat the Classic knot is. More fan than bulb, that's for sure.

The Classic is on the left, the Duke on the right.

Well all i can say gents is that I'm happy with both brushes. I face lather, both are great for that. Soaps or creams, the Duke more than holds it own. As for the Classic, early days, but so far I'm more than impressed. As I've said, the lather is particularly creamy. And i think the brush looks stunning too

Those are beauties! Either would make a wonderful addition to my line up, but I prefer to have both of them.

I particularly enjoy my Retro SP2 brush. One of the softest I have used. Great bloom and lather.
Hope you enjoy yours
