I recently purchased a Franklin Luxury shaving mug that included a lid. The listing showed that the lid was actually a travel case that was used as a lid. I don't know if it was sold that way originally as a matching set, or if someone had the two items and put them together. The listing clearly stated that there was some degradation of the gold bad on the outside of the mug near the top.
I have another seemingly identical mug with a pristine gold band. When I tried to transfer the lid to my old mug, it doesn't fit. The old mug us slightly smaller around. Probably some natural variation in pottery.
I like having a lid that looks good with the mug. It has the some logo and is the same dark brown color as the lettering on the outside of the mug, but I would like the lid on a mug with a good gold band.
Is anyone aware of someone that does that sort of restoration at a reasonable cost? Any ideas would be appreciated.
