Well, there he goes again!
Yep, my 2nd foray into the world of 'straight razor' shaves. Tried once before w/ a replacement blade type s/r(Monsieur Charles) that did not go well. I figured it was because I was unsure of what I was doing and didn't have the patience that was needed.
Now the jump from DE to 'straight' shouldn't be that large(especially after years of perfecting technique, angle, lather, etc.). With the Monsieur however, the gap became as large as the Grand Canyon. After the initial attempt, this piece of c----- err, equipment was put into the deepest recesses of my shave den.
Fast forward to today. I had just received a new Parker Stainless Steel replacement blade s/r(Tyx Charles-QED strikes again!) and loaded it with a half of a new Shark blade. After a shower and lathering up w/ C&E Nomad SS, it was time(plus, I hadn't shaved since Sunday in anticipation of using new stuff; RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! ).
This shave turned out much,much better! I di have to finish my chin area w/ my DE(not that brave yet!), but my cheeks, neck, and jaw turned out great. Yes I did give myself 1 owie(entry angle on left side of face) and a couple of three wee nicks, but after the HWS,CWS(man that felt good!), alum block, GFT Lime Skin Food, and topped off w/ Pashana A/S, I was the proud owner of a DFS. Only 2 passes were needed and both were WTG.
So what was different this time as compared to the last?
The Monsieur Charles is slightly heavier, the blade holder is rectangular in shape, is loaded w/ injector type blades, and is easier to load while seeming to not stay loaded;
The Parker SS is lighter, about a half inch shorter, w/ a rounded blade holder, is loaded w/ blades that are broken in half(but familiar!) and harder to load but that 1/2 blade is locked in there!
I definitely took my time and had more determination to succeed. I also believe that the rounded, lighter "s/r" was easier to wield and that I felt more safe w/ it because of its familiar blade. Also, the rounded end seemed to be more forgiving.
I probably should have bought a Feather, but did not like the initial outlay of costs and wanted to 'dip' my toe into this world rather than doing a belly flop or taking the full plunge. However, I have been faceturbating when not typing, so I have no idea where this goes......(actually, I do, but refuse to admit it right now.)
