Most protective cream or soap

I've never heard of soapy science soaps, but I looked them up and I am intrigued. Their first two ingredients are tallow, stearic acid, then water. Is this a firm croap or hard soap? I tend to like the more firm tallow based shave soaps.

Much firmer than most modern artisan soaps, but not triple-milled.

What are your top-five favorite soap bases for performance, particularly glide/slickness and conditioning/post-feel?

Can vouch for MacDuff's and Grooming Dept. Kairos SE 2023.

Beyond those, use more soap has usually been helpful for me, as has using shave soap for pre-shave, (and croaps shine for this).

Finally, don't be afraid to add, blend, combine, incorporate, mix for enhanced performance. You have a chance to demonstrate it's more the Indian than than the arrow.

I’d say Santa Maria Novella was the the slickest and most protective cream that I’ve used.

For me slick is protective rather than thick….

+1! Yes, indeed!! And, for me, it my soap is not slick then it goes to the bath!!

When in doubt use more soap, as every time things have gone less slick/protective, it was because I was using too little product

I'm a huge fan of the Cremo Shaving Creams. To me, they offer stunningly good protection against irritation.

Indeed. The slickness is great. The other advantage for most brushless is they are more like a lotion than a soap, so are nicer on your face to begin with.

Don't get me wrong sometimes I like a good soap lather too, but brushless are gentler on my skin than most soaps and well they should be given the content.
