For me it is a fresh blade. My face can tell when my blade is to worn out and I regret it for the rest of the day most of the time.

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
its all about the blade for me 1st and foremost. i use a fresh blade every shave. personally i can't stomach using a used blade.

Hi BubbleBoy: What is the most important factor in achieving a great shave for you? Me??? It's everything. From the razor, blade, soap or cream, and brush. It's like a team. I need everything to achieve success.

All of the above - no one factor alone makes for a great shave without the other factors there to play a contributory role.

Mel, that was weird! I was typing my post at the same time as you were and I realized afterwards that we both had the same thoughts :scared:.

I can get a good or even great shave with most blades, and with several different razors. The one thing that has made the most difference in my shaves has been improving my prep.

Some other factor - technique. You can get a good shave with poor equipment but good technique, but you can look like you shaved with an angry wolverine using the best equipment but poor technique.

I voted face prep, because it's mostly that. It seems to be really that if I spend time to shave properly, it's a great shave. When I have thirty minutes, I can use however much time I want. When I only have five minutes, I rush and sometimes it ends unpleasantly.

Voted blade since technique wasn't up there.
Can't have a good shave without a decent blade but can get a decent shave without a decent razor....

That's a really tough choice. Everything else being equal I think the soap/lather is the most important for me. I don't notice a great deal of difference between blades or razors, but a bad soap or lather can make for an uncomfortable shave with even the best blade and razor combo. For me at least...

In my experience, if I do not prep my face well enough, no blade/razor combo will give me a smooth and close shave. So, for me it is a settled issue.

To me it's got to be soap or cream, this is turning out to be the culprit of most problems so far in my noob-dom. Some products don't rate with others.
