What's new

Monkeyshines...or, "what happened to GM?"

Hey all...I'm back!

I have been away for some time, but am back on the scene, and figured I'd let you guys and dolls know what I've been up to. First, my PC at home died, then my router, and I just got around to getting a new one (well, both). I hadn't been able to post from work like I usually did, as they got very restrictive about what types of sites we could visit. Then, at the beginning of the month, I got fired after 9.5 years. I was sort of expecting it, since there was definitely some bad mojo in the air. I had some feelers out for other work anyway, so I'm not broken up about it. Now I'm taking some time to re-evaluate if I want to continue in the IT world or do something I actually enjoy, or I may go back to school at 39 (ugh). We're ok for now...my wife makes great(ish) money (a lot more than I did, in any event), and we are both liking this househusband role, lol. For the first time in years I feel relaxed, well rested, and not full of tension and anger, and we're both reaping the rewards...I'm getting things done around the house, spending quality time with my cats, PS3 games, books I haven't got around to reading, and cathing up on the past year's worth of DVR recordings and Liverpool games, lol.

As far as shaving stuff goes, I have made some changes in my routine and equipment, and I'm suprised at the results. First, I got a Rooney 1/2 in Finest (stock dump, prior to getting fired, lol), and I LOVE this thing...thanks Jim & VB! I switched to Iridium Super blades from my beloved 7 O'Clock Yellows, and they are great...smooth, long lasting, and sharp. I had been alternating between my 1934 Aristocrat and my Bull Mastiff/NEW combo, but the past few shaves I went all the way back to my first DE, the Futur, and I'm wondering why I ever forsook it for all the vintage Gillette's I've tried in the past year. I'm getting the best shaves I've ever had regularly with the ol' Futur, and on higher settings than ever before (I'm in the 3-3.25 range on the settings...previously I was scared to take it past 2), so all the old fellas must have really helped improve my technique. The 1/2 Finest, Futur, Iridium Super, SCS soaps and face lathering are the bee's knees for me! So, word of advice...sometimes go back to a razor or blade you haven't tried in a long time or stopped liking...you just may be suprised at how much you dig it, or how much better it works for you now.

Anywho...I'm back and in the frame again...sorry for the AWOLishness, and lack of communication. I'd dropped in from time to time just to poke around, but never logged in as me and posted anything..too busy, too down, too :mad3::sad::closedeye.

Hoping that all is well with all of you and yours. This time of year can be a real pain, but take some time to reflect on your blessings in life, help out others if you can, and let your loved ones hear how much you love them just one more time. Here's hoping 2010 is a good one for all of us...peace!

It is great to have you back in the fold! The Czardom has been busy. A lot of new faces that have fit in well. I can't remember when you left, so who knows how much you have missed. But, you know as well as I do, you jump in and will be caught up in no time. Welcome home!

Welcome back. It sounds like things are looking up for you.

I went back to school at 40 and don't regret it at all.

Welcome back! I've had a couple of sabbaticals from B&B too. I'm sorry about your current job situation, but you sound good.
