Moisturizing Shave Soap or Cream Recommendation

I'm currently using the new Proraso Sensitive Formula in the white tub with the new Proraso Pre/Post Shave but don't feel like it's lubricating my face enough. I'm looking for suggestions on a soap or cream that would provide more lubrication in comparison to the Proraso I'm using now. Thanks for the guidance.

Soaps are inherently drying, but for the most "moisturizing" I like soaps with lanolin. A sample from Mike's Natural would be a good thing to try. The 'standard' for lanolin shave soap is Mitchell's Wool Fat.

I apologize if this is considered a duplicate post since I also posted this in the soap section. I just want to make sure I'm reaching out to both sides of the fence for suggestions.

try the soap without the pre/post. And use more water if you feel it's not gliding enough.

Refine your technique before trying to buy your way to the top.

Queen Charlotte Soaps has a line of creams that are soft like Italian Soaps. http://www.queencharlottesoaps.com They are very moisturizing and provide great slickness and cushion. You can buy samples to try them out first.

Added later: since this has been merged with the soaps thread - be sure to try Mikes Natural Soaps too. Every bit as good as QCS. I can't decide which I like better - so I have both.

If you need more lubrication, I suggest adding more water to the Proraso when you whip up a lather. I find many creams feel a little thick and sticky if not properly hydrated. FWIW, with Proraso, if the cream is thick and yogurty, then for me it's too thick. I like mine a little stiffer than cream whipped to the "soft peaks" stage. When I apply it, I apply a layer of cream that's on the thin side. Works well for me and I find Proraso very slick that way.

I have dry skin so only moisturizing soaps suit me. Lanolin is great but so is shea butter.

1) Mike's: has lanolin, shea butter and tallow
2) MWF: has lanolin and tallow
3) Pre de Provence: has shea butter
4) IK: has LOTS of shea butter

I don't use any tallow, so my experience is limited to the non-tallow versions. Of those, IK is the most moisturizing that I've found.

musgo (or any portuguese soaps) or mikes natural (amazing!) are what i can recommend. With poraso (both tub and cream) i generally add about 1/4 of a brush dip more water than need be and get a more runny yogurt, IMHO it makes the menthol come out more, and provides a slicker more comfortable shave. Plus with the more water, your face is more hydrated. But with everything, YMMV and what works for me, may not be your cup of tea.

Another reason I was suggesting Mike's- besides the fact that the soaps are great performers full of good stuff - is that Mike sells samples. So you can cheaply test if a nice lanolin soap will work for you

If you want a moisturizing soap, avoid any that contains sodium chloride.

Manufacturers add sodium chloride (salt) to remove the naturally-occurring glycerin and then sell the glycerin at a larger profit than they sell the soap for. This is why soap you purchase in stores usually dries your skin out. Naturally-occurring glycerin is very good at moisturizing. Manufacturers will then add enough glycerin back in to be able to claim it on the label. This is akin to adding one chocolate chip to a gallon of strawberry ice cream in order to call it "Chocolate Chip Ice Cream".
